Baseball game
The Devil Rays take on the Boston Red Sox from 3 p.m.-midnight Sept. 3. Taste of the Town
BJ’s Wholesale Club, 1929 Pine Island Road N.E., to showcase local restaurants in a Taste of the Town event from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. This is a free event where more than two dozen restaurants will present a signature dish for people to sample. 50 plus Soft Ball
50 plus Soft Ball of Cape Coral is looking for players of all skill levels. Season starts Sept. 1. Games and practices are held at the BMX Park at Trafalgar Parkway and Skyline Boulevard. Columbus Day parade, festival sponsors needed
The Charles J. Bonaparte Lodge No. 2504, Order Sons of Italy in America will host the 26th Annual Columbus Day Parade and Second Annual Columbus Day Festival on Oct. 10. Sponsorships include:
– Platinum sponsor, $2,500: Name and company logo on all advertising printed material, media announcements will include company name as a sponsor, vendor space provided at event, six reserved VIP seats for headline entertainment, company provided banner hung at event and promotional announcements during the event.
– Gold sponsor, $1,000: Name and company logo on advertising printed material, company provided banner hung at event, vendor space – no tent provided – and VIP seating for four.
– Silver sponsor, $500: Name on advertising printed materials, vendor space – no tent provided – and VIP seating for two at headline entertainment.
– Bronze sponsor, $250: Name on advertising printed materials and table space provided at feast.
There will be a limited amount of platinum sponsors.
All sponsors are entitled to parade entrance with no additional fees. Vendors must provide own tables, chairs, electricity – quiet generators – et cetra. Space must be self-contained in area.

The 2009 Volunteer Fair will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Shell Factory. The event is an expo of organizations and volunteer opportunities in Lee County. The fair gives the chance to interact with organization representatives and find volunteer opportunities.

Florida Yards & Neighborhood class
A Florida Yards and Neighborhoods introductory class will be held from 6-9 p.m. today at Eco-Living Center at Rutenberg Park, 6490 South Pointe Blvd., Fort Myers. Learn the nine principles that guide Florida-friendly landscaping in Lee County. Taught by FYN staff and Lee County Extension Master Gardeners. Each principle explored in class, so participants can apply what is learned in their own yard. Plant selection and placement, efficient irrigation, proper mulching, smart fertilizing and other techniques to obtain a beautiful and healthy yard will be discussed. ‘Sampling of the Symphony’
The Veranda will play host as the Southwest Florida Symphony invites music lovers interested in the symphony, as well as loyal patrons, to a “Sampling of the Symphony” from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday. Join us for a performance by pianist Charles Heard and a chance to be one-on-one with maestro Michael Hall.
The Southwest Florida Symphony will hold auditions for the adult chorus from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday and 6:30-8 p.m. Aug. 31 at First Baptist Church in Fort Myers. Free foreclosure workshop monthly
The Lee County Bar Association sponsors a free monthly foreclosure workshop for the public in conjunction with the Lee County Foreclosure Task Force, The United Way and Herocare. The next workshop will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Florida Rural Legal Services, 3210 Cleveland, Fort Myers. Free information will be provided to help homeowners remain in their homes, reduce foreclosures and advocate for fair and equitable treatment for citizens. The workshops are conducted on the third Thursday of every month. They are educational in nature and have attorneys present to help answer questions. English Country Dancing lessons
