Lake Kennedy Senior Center

Lake Kennedy Senior Center at 400 Santa Barbara Blvd., presents the following events for the month of August:

– Line dancing with Tenny Popa Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. The cost is $3 per person for members and $7 per person for non-members.

– T.G.I.F. Friday dance, Aug. 14 and Aug. 28, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Bring beverages, along with snacks or enjoy the refreshment area. ice and cups available. Cost is $4 per person for members and $8 per person for non-members.

– Comedy Club dinner show featuring Rene Bray and Emcee Chris Cowles, Friday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $22 per person for members and $32 per person for non-members.

Summertime Senior Celebration: The first Summertime Senior Celebration is coming to Lake Kennedy Center on Friday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Parking, admission, food and drink samples, entertainment, health screenings are free to seniors.

This Summertime Senior Celebration is open to seniors (50 plus), their families, their friends and to all people that care about seniors.

Rotino Senior Center

The Tony Rotino Senior Center will be open 4:30 p.m. to sunset the first Wednesday of every month. Come on down to the Yacht Club Community Park, enjoy the Sunset Celebration and stop by to see what we have to offer. Rotino Center is located at 5817 Driftwood Parkway.

BJ’s Taste of the Town

BJ’s Wholesale Club at 1929 Pine Island Road, NE, in Cape Coral will showcase local restaurants in Taste of the Town event on Saturday, Aug. 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a free event where over two dozen local restaurants will showcase a signature dish for people to sample. Shoppers can also participate in a variety of family-fun activities like face painting and arts and crafts.

Soft ball of Cape Coral

50 plus Soft Ball of Cape Coral is looking for players of all skill levels. Season starts Sept. 1. Games and practices are held at the BMX Park at Trafalgar Parkway and Skyline Boulevard.

Practice is on Tuesdays and Thursdays 5 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m. Games are Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30 and 8 p.m.

Sons of Italy

Charles J. Bonaparte Lodge No. 2504, Order Sons of Italy in America located at 728 S.E. 44th Street, the 26th Annual Columbus Day Parade and Second Annual Columbus Day Festival on Oct. 10.

Fort Myers

Pre-screening models

On Aug 5, 6, and 8. The OssLin Model/Talent Agency will be pre-screening Models for The Ford Modeling Agency. On August 12, Ford will be at The OssLin Agency holding a casting call. Woman must be Ages 14 through 24 and 5’8″ to 5’11” Models must be a straight size 4. Plus size models may be size 14. You must bring a bathing suit.

Men must be 16-26, 6′ to 6’2″, 32 in waist and a size 42 jacket. You must bring swim trunks.

Southwest Florida Symphony auditions

The Southwest Florida Symphony will hold chorus auditions for the adults’ and children’s chorus on Aug. 22 from 10 to 2p.m. and Aug. 31 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church in downtown Fort Myers.

The Youth orchestra auditions will be held Aug. 31, and Sept. 1. The time and location will be announced.

Sampling of the Symphony at the Veranda

The Veranda will play host as the Southwest Florida Symphony invites music lovers interested in the Symphony as well as loyal patrons to a”Sampling of the Symphony” on Aug. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. Join us for a special performance by pianist Charles Heard and a rare chance to be one-on-one with our Maestro Michael Hall.

A”Sampling of the Symphony” will provide all new subscribers with discounts and free tickets to the upcoming Barbara B. Mann sponsored performance of David Garrett, the world-renowned violinist recently seen on PBS. These free tickets and discounts are available at”Sampling of the Symphony” parties only.

The Veranda, nestled in the heart of historic downtown Fort Myers, provides the picturesque background around which the Southwest Florida Symphony can provide a teaser of the tremendous talent that lies within.
