Free vessel safety check

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, through Flotilla 9-10 Fort Myers-Cape Coral, will offer a free vessel safety check Saturday at Tarpon Point Marina, 6095 King Blvd.

The inspection insures a vessel is in compliance with all federal and state boating regulations. Upon completion, boat owners will be awarded a decal to place on the vessel showing that it has met all regulations.

There are no citations issued for failure to pass. Participants will be issued a written report showing what needs to be completed to comply.

This is a courtesy inspection to help improve boating safety in the community.

Lake Kennedy Senior Center

Lake Kennedy Senior Center, at 400 Santa Barbara Blvd., presents the following:

– Line dancing with Tenny Popa: Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $3 for members and $7 for non-members.

– Matinee Dinner Cabaret at Visani Dinner Theater in Port Charlotte: Leave from the center at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday. Cost is $67 for members and $77 for non-members.

– T.G.I.F. Friday dance: Aug. 14 and 28 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Bring beverages and snacks or enjoy the refreshment area. Ice and cups will be available. Cost is $4 for members and $8 for non-members.

50 plus Soft Ball

50 plus Soft Ball of Cape Coral is looking for players of all skill levels.

The season starts Sept. 1, and games and practices are held at the BMX Park fields located at Trafalgar Parkway and Skyline Boulevard.

Practice is Tuesday and Thursday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m. Games are Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 and 8 p.m.

Sponsors sought for Columbus Day event

Charles J. Bonaparte Lodge No. 2504, at 728 S.E. 44th St., is seeking sponsors for the 26th Annual Columbus Day Parade and Second Annual Columbus Day Festival Oct. 10.

A platinum sponsor is $ 2,500 and includes name and company Logo on all advertising printed material. Any media announcements will include company name as a sponsor, vendor space provided at event, six reserved VIP seats for headline entertainment, company provided banner hung at the event and promotional announcements during the event.

A gold sponsor is $1,000 and includes name and company logo on all advertising, printed material and a company provided banner hung at the event. A vendor space – no tent provided – will be available and VIP seating for four.

A silver sponsor is $500 and includes name on all advertising printed materials, vendor space – no tent provided – available. VIP seating for two at the headline entertainment.

A bronze sponsor is $250 and includes name on all advertising printed materials and table space provided at the feast.

There will be a limited amount of platinum sponsors. All sponsors are entitled to parade entrance with no additional fees.

Vendors must provide own tables, chairs, electricity (with quiet generators) and such. Space must be self-contained in area.

Local model pre-screening

The OssLin Model/Talent Agency will pre-screen models from noon-3 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday for The Ford Modeling Agency.

The Ford Modeling Agency will be at The OssLin Agency holding a casting call Aug. 12.

Woman must be ages 14-24 and 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall. Models must be a straight size 4. Plus size models may be size 14. Bring a bathing suit.

Men must be ages 16-26, 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, 32 inches in the waist and a size 42 jacket. Bring swim trunks.

Symphony to hold chorus auditions

The Southwest Florida Symphony will hold chorus auditions for adults from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 22 and 6:30-8 p.m. Aug. 31 at First Baptist Church in Fort Myers.

Auditions for the youth orchestra will be held Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at a time and location to be announced.

“Sampling of the Symphony”

The Southwest Florida Symphony will perform a “Sampling of the Symphony” from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 19 at Veranda in Fort Myers.

Special performance by pianist Charles Heard and a chance to be one-on-one with Maestro Michael Hall.

Event will provide new subscribers with discounts and free tickets to the upcoming Barbara B. Mann sponsored performance of David Garrett, the world-renowned violinist recently seen on PBS.

The free tickets and discounts are available at “Sampling of the Symphony” parties only.

Event guests also will be treated to a sampling of the Veranda’s finest appetizers. A cash bar will be provided for those wanting cocktails.
