Save the Pets to benefit Harry Chapin Food Bank
An all-out effort to collect non-perishable food and pet items on July 18 by stores in Tanger Outlets will benefit the Harry Chapin Food Bank.
The “Feed Our Families and Their Pets Food Drive” will occur between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. All stores will collect food and pet food items for the food bank.
The day’s event is a joint effort among the Save the Pets organization, the Harry Chapin Food Bank, and the stores at Tanger Outlets. Other participants will be the Animal Refuge Center, Petco and Lee County Sheriff’s VOICE program.
Dogs and cats will be brought in for the event by the Animal Refuge Center. Live broadcasts will be made by WINK radio during the event.
Best friends are forever. Don’t let them lose theirs over a bowl of food. This is the mantra of the Save the Pets organization, which has formed the alliance for the event.
Save the Pets offers assistance to those who need a helping hand to keep their pet and the Harry Chapin Food Bank has agreed to be the central collection point for the pet food and related supplies.
The economic climate, foreclosures, job loss and lack of health care coverage are causing people to look for assistance that they never would have dreamed of needing, including help so they can keep their beloved pets.
Animal rescue groups and shelters are bursting at the seams, often the result of people having to give up their pets because they can’t feed them.
Tanger Outlets is located at 20350 Summerlin Road in Fort Myers, two miles before the Sanibel Causeway.
