Cape Coral Sons Italy Lodge 2054 awarded the 2009 college scholarship to Renato Proia.

He graduated from Mariner High School with a 4.42 GPA. Renato will attend the University of South Florida and major in accounting.

His grandfather came from a little city outside of Rome and his grandmother’s family was from Sicily.

The Order of Sons of Italy in America is the largest and longest-established Italian-American organization in the country.

The Charles J. Bonaparte Lodge donates to many charities, including Alzheimer’s, Cooley’s anemia and the American Cancer Society.

The college scholarship is awarded each spring to a deserving high school graduate of Italian descent.

The Cape Coral lodge also sponsors the Columbus Day Parade and Food Fest every October. Corporate and private sponsorships and donations are welcome.

The general membership meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month, September through June. Visitors from the Cape Coral and Fort Myers vicinity are welcome.
