Susan Marie Scleroderma Foundation

The local Susan Marie Scleroderma Foundation, Inc. founded to increase awareness of the disease, will be one of the featured groups present during the Sunset Celebration at the Cape Coral Yacht Club Wednesday, June 3. Representatives of the non-profit, 501(c)3 organization will be located in the Yacht Club pavilion to answer questions and provide information about scleroderma.

Connie Bucholzl, resident of the group, said the foundation was formed after her sister, Susan marie, passed away from the disease in 2007.

Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Meeting

The Akzheimer’s Support Group meeting will include an opportunity for caregivers to meet others who are facing similar challenges and to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and effective coping strategies.

Three day sale at Pink Bazaar

The Pink Bazaar Thrift Shop, which is part of the Lee Memorial Health System and has been operated by the Lee Memorial Auxiliary for over 27 years, is hosting a “Get Ready for Summer Super 3-day Sale”. Proceeds from the sale will help fund healthcare technology and programs which benefit the patients and community members of Southwest Florida. The shop is located at 12135 S. Cleveland Avenue in the Sherwin Williams Plaza, one block north of Crystal Drive and is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The sale will be held May 28, 29 and 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The shop is always in need of unwanted items. Donate clothing, housewares ,home decor, furniture, books, sorts equipment, linens, toys and gardening supplies.

June Courses Edison State College Continuing Education Classes

Nurse refresher course: The Nurse Refresher and Remedial program is an intensive program of didactic (96 hours) and clinical experiences (96 hours). This program is also approved by the Florida Board of Nursing for remediation of the nursing graduate who has not been successful with the NCLEX-RN exam. Lectures, home studies, skills lab and acute hospital clinical experiences are provided in a relaxed atmosphere to promote learning. Home Study consists of 40 hours. It will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning June 9, at Edison State College. The cost is $1,000.

CPR for Babysitters: Parents like to know that their babysitter is prepared for any emergency. CPR for Babysitters is designed to teach babysitters how to deal with a child who is not breathing or choking, or whose heart has stopped beating. Topics include one and two-rescuer infant and child CPR, choking and safety. CPR for Babysitters is an American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Basic Life Support Course, designed for babysitters. Participants receive an AHA certificate valid for two years. Class size is limited. This one day class will be held on Saturday, June 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $60.
