Students learn fiber optic skills

Students in several of the electronics and computer technology programs at Lee County High Tech Center North got a chance to practice some newly learned skills with fiber optics recently. Learning how to work with these fibers and learning how to make connections is a task that puts these students in line for some highly technical, and well paying, jobs in our local economy.

Beth Halpern works with Panduit Corporation and she put on the workshop introducing students to fiber optics.

The workshop was all hands-on. Students quickly learned the quick sure steps that Halpern made look easy required steady hands, planning, practice and careful operations.

By the time the workshop was complete, every student had successfully made connections between fiber optic cables that passed inspection and would work properly in the “real world.”

High Tech North instructor Brian Hart said, “These students will be ready to do these jobs when they complete the programs here.”

High Tech North is a career/technical school in Cape Coral. For information about the electronics or computer programs on campus, call the school at 574-4440 or visit the Web site at: High-TechNorth.com.
