Lee County 4-H group creates butterfly garden in Cape Coral

The 4H Cadets of Lee County is a group that studies marine science and the environment along with the importance of community service. The local cadets this year applied for a Community Pride Project Grant offered by the Chevron Corporation and were accepted. The cadets volunteer regularly at the Sterling House in Cape coral so they wanted the grant to help build a butterfly garden for the residents to enjoy and to continue their positive relationship with them.
The cadets planned, designed, took educational workshops and field trips, and learned what it takes to build a butterfly garden. Then they put all their knowledge together with the help of 4H leaders, master gardeners and other experts and created their garden. They held a dedication ceremony honoring the residents and thanking The Chevron Corp. on April 24 at the Sterling House in Cape Coral.
In addition to thanking The Chevron Corp., the cadets would like to thank Forestry Resources in Cape Coral for supplying the mulch and its community team – 4-H Cadets leaders and members, Claudette Bert and Sterling House, Korina Chilcoat 4-H CADET club president, Laurie Lazenby and family – committee leader, Rob and Dawn Underwood and family committee leader, IFAS office: Cathy Suggs Lee County 4-H youth agent, Stephen H. Brown horticulture program leader, Thomas Becker Florida Yards agent, Gayle Edwards Lee County master gardener, along with All Native Nursery and Garden Center Riverside Nursery.
