Local students receive art awards

Four students from Christ Lutheran School are recent winners in a recent Cape Coral Library Art Contest.
The contest, “Coloring the Earth,” offered a challenge for students to draw their favorite Southwest Florida bird.
Students from all over Lee County submitted more than 200 entries.
The contest was judged by three local artists, one local bird expert, and an editor from a local newspaper.
“We are thrilled to have four of our students win top honors for their artistic talents,” Principal Iris Mitchell said. “We are especially appreciative of the instruction offered by our art teacher William Herstam. He educates and inspires his students.
“In the 11- to 12-year-old division, Amy Carothers won third place. In the 9- to 10-year-old division, we had three winners: Paige Arey won Honorable Mention, Andrew Mills won Second Place, and Taylor Corcoran won First Place,” she continued. “Art is a very important supplement to our core curriculum.”
