Mangroves and everlasting memories in the Everglades

2 min read

Some 200 guests gathered recently at the Palmetto Pine Country Club in Cape Coral for an afternoon of history and fashion. The club was turned into a tropical haven, decorated with an abundance of fresh tropical greens and glades, coconuts and saw grass. Guests were entertained throughout the day to music selections by pianist Bill Wardle.

Program chairpersons Janet Forrer and Diane Welch and guests enjoyed Annie Mrozinski’s portrayal of Majory Stoneman Douglas, who was dubbed “The Grandmother of the Everglades.” Douglas’ remarkable life spanned 108 years as a journalist, writer and environmental crusader. In 1993 she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Mrozinski is well known in Southwest Florida for her portrayal of significant historical women.

Keeping with the theme of the day, models strutted down the runway in Lilly Pulitzer tropical fashions provided by the Pink Pineapple.

The model’s make-up and hair styles were provided by Touch Spa & Salon.

Models included Christina Prendiville, Brenda Skupny, Shirley Trinski, Amy Wegman, Janet Wyres, Chelsea Forrer, Morgan Forrer and Aspen Welch.

This fund-raising event benefiting the Southwest Florida Symphony Society was sponsored by Hand Therapy of Cape Coral, Sip and Send Wine & Gift Shoppe, Windsor of Cape Coral Assisted Living & Memory Care, and Women Who Care.
