Life Line Screening

The Christ Lutheran Church at 2911 Del Prado Blvd., will host Life Line Screening on April 29 at 9 a.m.

Screenings identify potential cardiovascular conditions such as blocked arteries and irregular heart rhythm abdominal aortic aneuryems, and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which is a strong predictor of heart disease. A bone density screening to assess osteoporosis risk is also offered and is appropriate for both men and women.

Blood pressure and blood sugar clinics

Tatalomo’s Nurses Registry will provide complimentary blood pressure and blood sugar clinics on the third Monday of each month, at Lake Kennedy Senior Center, 400 Santa Barbara Blvd. There is no cost. For more information call 574-0575.

Peter Rabins

Peter Rabins, MD, MPH, an internationally-known expert on psychiatric disorders in the elderly and co-author of the book “The 36-Hour Day,” and author of “Getting Old Without Getting Anxious” will deliver a talk on advances in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Rabins, Director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Program at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, serves on the Professional Advisory Board of event sponsor SeniorBridge. The lecture and book signing is free to the public. It will take place on Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Temple Beth-El, located at 16225 Winkler Road, Ft. Myers. CHADD meeting

CHADD of Lee County is local chapter of the national organization. We provide information and support for adults, parents with AD/HD children,and educators and other interested professionals.. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday (with the exception of November) of each month from 7 to 8 p.m. at Lee Memorial Hospital Auditorium, 2776 Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers.

The May 5 meeting is Living with AD/HD. A conversation with a mental health professional about living with AD/HD; recognition and treatment; coaching; counseling creating positive interactions in the family.

Blood drive

The Cape Coral Association of Realtors will host a blood drive on May 13, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Just one pint of blood can help save the lives of several people and all blood donations remain in the Lee Memorial Health System.

In addition to donating blood to help save lives, every time you donate blood, you receive vital health checks free of charge, including pulse rate, blood pressure body temperature blood type and anemia. Also,upon request, a cholesterol level check can also be done.

NAMI

Support groups and classes are provided by NAMI Lee County free of charge.

NAMI Connection is a support group for adults who have been diagnosed with any mental illness. Meetings:

Monday nights at Lee memorial hospital in room 2, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Tuesday night at Lee Mental Health, Ruth Cooper Campus, 2780 ortiz Ave., Building F, Fort Myers, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday nights from April 29-June 1l, 6 p.m. at JBH Community Health,12550 New Brittany Road, Fort Myers. Class requires an application by Aoril 22. Call 239-337-9024.

Thursday afternoon United Way House, 1105 Cultural Parkway, Cape Coral, in Family Course:

Family in Family Courses: for loved ones of those diagnosed with a mental illness. Taught three to four times per year and is taught in various areas of Lee County.

Peer to Peer

Peer to Peer Course: for persons with a diagnosis of any mental illness. Taught three-four times per year in various locations in Lee Count.

Putting the Pieces Together, a support group for loved ones of adolescents, who have been diagnosed with a mental illness, 6 to 8 p.m., Riverside Church 8660 Daniels Parkway, Main Building.

Rainbow Trails

Rainbow Trails, the Hope Hospice bereavement camp for children, needs male counselors to work with boys between the ages of 6 and 16.

The camp will be held in Ellenton from June 5 through 7. Bus transportation from Fort Myers is provided for the entire group.

Each counselor will be responsible for three boys. Duties may include supervision during recreation activities, entertainment and meals, and making sure the boys are accounted for each night.

Rainbow Trails is a highly rewarding experience for everyone involved.

All applicants will undergo a police background check.

Applicants must attend three training sessions, on April 27, May 4 and May 11, from 5 to 7 p.m., as well as the entire weekend of camp.
