3 min read

Naples – The University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science’s Sea Secrets lecture series returns to Naples with the engaging lecture: “Chasing Science at Sea.” Dr. Ellen Prager will introduce her book on ocean experts and their fascinating journeys on Wednesday, April 29, at 6 p.m. in NCH Healthcare System’s Robert L. & Marie K. Telford Building for Continuing Medical Education Auditorium (2nd floor) at the Downtown Naples Hospital Campus located at 350 7th Street North, Naples, Fla. A complimentary reception precedes the lecture at 5:30 p.m.

An alumna and adjunct professor at the Rosenstiel School, Prager is widely recognized for her expertise and ability to bring science to the layman. She is the chief scientist for the Aquarius Reef Base program in Key Largo, which includes the world’s only undersea research station, a freelance writer and consultant for clients such as the President’s U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy, Celebrity Cruise Lines and StormCenter Communications, Inc. Prager has appeared on The Today Show, Good Morning America, Fox News, CBS Early Show and News, CNN American Morning, Larry King and Lou Dobbs. She was also featured in the ABC News Special Planet Earth 2000, Miami’s NBC EcoWatch Coral Crisis and has been on shows for the Discovery Channel.

Prager’s latest book, “Chasing Science at Sea” immerses readers in the world of those who regularly go to sea – aquanauts living underwater, marine biologists seeking unseen life in the deep ocean and the tall-ship captains at the helm, among others – and tells the fascinating tale of what life – and science – is like at the mercy of Mother Nature.

The University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School and the NCH Healthcare System sponsor the Sea Secrets Naples lecture series. The Rosenstiel School designed this series of evening programs specifically for the South Florida non-scientific community to learn more about our blue planet and to meet distinguished scientists and explorers from around the world.

Prager’s captivating stories on the challenges and triumphs of dealing with the extreme forces of the nature and the unpredictable world of the oceans will be presented free as are all Sea Secrets events. Open to the public; however seating is limited. R.S.V.P. to Carla Lovinsky at (305) 421-4061 or clovinsky@rsmas.miami.edu
