Two winners have been announced for the U.S. Postal Service’s “Extreme Mailbox Makeover” competition held recently. They are Bob and Sandy Anderson of Fort Myers and Bruce and Donna Boyd of Cape Coral.

Postmaster Anne Murray noted that she was very pleased with the entries for the mailbox improvement competition. Although most of the entries didn’t have mailboxes in bad shape, they were very plain. “The improvements will provide an enhancement for neighborhoods and will make delivering mail a pleasant experience for letter carriers,” she said in a prepared statement.

Murray thanks all those who submitted entries.

Those submitting entries were required to submit both before and after photos. Some explained their improvements and used environmentally appropriate materials; others constructed their new mailboxes out of previously discarded materials.

The Anderson’s new mailbox features an attractive brown outhouse, appropriately called “Nature Calls.” The Boyd’s new mailbox is a white wooden lighthouse. The “before and after” photos will be on display at the Page Field and Cape Coral Central post offices in the month of May. The entries were judged by members of the Customer Advisory Council during their April meeting.
