Cape Coral
Life Line Screening
The Christ Lutheran Church at 2911 Del Prado Blvd., will host Life Line Screening on April 29 beginning at 9 a.m.
Screenings identify potential cardiovascular conditions such as blocked arteries and irregular heart rhythm abdominal aortic aneuryems, and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which is a strong predictor of heart disease. A bone density screening to assess osteoporosis risk is also offered and is appropriate for both men and women.

Blood pressure and blood sugar clinics
Tatalomo’s Nurses Registry will provide complimentary blood pressure and blood sugar clinics on the third Monday of each month, at Lake Kennedy Senior Center, 400 Santa Barbara Blvd. Their is no cost. For more information call 574-0575.

Lymphedema Education support group
Lymphedema Education Awareness Support Group will meet on April 11. The topic will be compression garments with speaker John Wellum of Discount Medical Stockings.

Child abuse expert
The Lee Memorial Health System Foundation announced that it will feature top child abuse expert and author Victor Vieth at its Fourth Annual Prendergast Lectureship. The annual lectureship is made possible in part by The Prendergast Family Endowment and provides a free, open to the community, lecture each spring.
The Fourth Annual Prendergast Lectureship will take place on April 14 at 7 p.m. at Lexington Country Club, located at 16257 Willowcrest Way in Fort Myers. Keynote Speaker Victor I. Vieth will address the Southwest Florida Community with a speech entitled, “Unto the Third Generation: A Call to End Child Abuse Within 120 Years.”
The April 14 lecture is free and open to the public, but does require an R.S.V.P. to the Lee Memorial Health System Foundation office at 239-985-3550.
Conference on aging
Hope Hospice and Community Services will host the Eighth Annual Southwest Florida Conference on Aging, to be held in Fort Myers on Friday, April 17. The Conference is sponsored by Osterhout, McKinney, & Prather, PA., Elder Law Attorneys.
The conference will provide information on a wide range of issues related to aging, including the impact of current economic conditions. Other topics include care options, protection from abuse and driving competence.
The conference will be held at the Broadway Palm, 1380 Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers.

Marketplace Ministries of Life Church is providing free health screenings for all ages at its Health 4 Life event April 18, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the church campus located at 11735 Plantation Road in Fort Myers. The community outreach program will include screenings for blood pressure, height, weight, glucose and cholesterol.
This is a free event, but pre-registration is required. Those wishing to participate should call 325-5433 (LIFE) ext. 108.
Autism conference
A conference on autism, “Promising Pathways: The Road to Best Practice in Autism,” will be presented for physicians, parents and educators on Saturday, April 25, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom at Florida Gulf Coast University, Fort Myers, Florida. The Road to Best Practice in Autism conference is free and open to the public. Peter Rabins
Peter Rabins, MD, MPH, an internationally-known expert on psychiatric disorders in the elderly and co-author of the book “The 36-Hour Day,” and author of “Getting Old Without Getting Anxious” will deliver a talk on advances in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Rabins, Director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Program at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, serves on the Professional Advisory Board of event sponsor SeniorBridge. The lecture and book signing is free to the public. It will take place on Thursday, April 23 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Temple Beth-El, located at 16225 Winkler Road, Ft. Myers. Support groups and classes are provided by NAMI Lee County free of charge.
NAMI Connection is a support group for adults who have been diagnosed with any mental illness. Meetings:

Tuesday night at Lee Mental Health, Ruth Cooper Campus, 2780 Ortiz Ave., Building F, Fort Myers, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Lee County Recognition Dinner honors all volunteers
The American Red Cross of Lee County, for the first time in recorded history, shared Volunteer of the Year honors with two volunteers, Michelle Percello of
Fort Myers and Tom Lee of North Fort Myers.
At Thursday’s Hawaiian-themed volunteer recognition dinner, all Lee County Red Cross volunteers were honored for their service. Both Percello and Lee were integral in major events in the past year including the Red Cross’s extended sheltering operation following Tropical Storm Fay.

Rainbow Trails
Rainbow Trails, the Hope Hospice bereavement camp for children, needs male counselors to work with boys between the ages of 6 and 16.
The camp will be held in Ellenton from June 5 through 7. Bus transportation from Fort Myers is provided for the entire group.
Each counselor will be responsible for three boys. Duties may include supervision during recreation activities, entertainment and meals, and making sure the boys are accounted for each night.
Rainbow Trails is a highly rewarding experience for everyone involved.
All applicants will undergo a police background check.
Applicants must attend three training sessions, on April 27, May 4 and May 11 from 5 to 7 p.m., as well as the entire weekend of camp.
