Free yoga/zumba class

Cape Coral Parks & Recreation is offering free trial of yoga/zumba classes.The free classes will take place at Rotary Park on Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and April 6 from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Bring a yoga mat if planning on participating or just come to watch. Call 549-4606 to register.

Retired Registered Nurses meeting

Blood pressure and blood sugar clinics

Tatalomo’s Nurses Registry will provide complimentary blood pressure and blood sugar clinics on the third Monday of each month, at Lake Kennedy Senior Center, 400 Santa Barbara Blvd. The cost is free. For more information call 574-0575.

Latest Volunteer Opportunities

The Kidney Foundation Thrift Store in Cape Coral is in need of volunteers. They are the only all volunteer Kidney Foundation Thrift Store left in Florida. They pride themselves with supplying high quality merchandise to customers. They also donate a portion of the proceeds to the Kidney Foundation and provide food gifts to dialysis patients four times a year. The average age of their volunteer staff is between 70 and 80 years of age. They are seeking volunteers of all ages to help maintain the store to serve their community. The local Library is in need of volunteers. The Lee County Library System has several opportunities that may vary at all library locations and service units. Volunteers serve as computer coaches, book shelvers and menders, clerical helpers, special events assistants and other responsibilities as needed. Fort Myers

CHADD

CHADD of Lee County will be meeting on April 7 at 7 p.m., at the Lee Memorial Hospital Auditorium, 2776 Cleveland Avenue, Fort Myers. The topic will be “Educational Law, Legal Rights and Advocacy”. The speaker will be Elaine Fitzgerald, Coordinator of Psychological Services of Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Department for the School District of Lee County.

Upcoming meetings include Living with AD/HD on May 5th and A Round Table of Support on June 2nd.

Meetings are free and open to the public. Share this information with others who have an interest in learning more about Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

Lymphedema Education support group

Lymphedema Education Awareness Support Group will meet Saturday, April 11. The topic: Compression Garments with speaker, John Wellum, Discount Medical Stockings.

Child abuse expert

The Lee Memorial Health System Foundation announced that it will feature top child abuse expert and author Victor Vieth at its Fourth Annual Prendergast Lectureship. The annual lectureship is made possible in part by The Prendergast Family Endowment and provides a free of charge, open to the community, lecture each spring.

The Fourth Annual Prendergast Lectureship will take place on April 14 at 7 p.m. at Lexington Country Club, located at 16257 Willowcrest Way in Fort Myers. Keynote Speaker Victor I. Vieth will address the Southwest Florida Community with a speech entitled, “Unto the Third Generation: A Call to End Child Abuse Within 120 Years.”

The April 14 lecture is free and open to the public, but does require an R.S.V.P. to the Lee Memorial Health System Foundation office at 239-985-3550.

NAMI

Support groups and classes are provided by NAMI Lee County free of charge.

NAMI Connection is a support group for adults who have been diagnosed with any mental illness. Meetings:

Monday nights at Lee memorial hospital in room 2, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Tuesday night at Lee Mental Health, Ruth Cooper Campus, 2780 ortiz Ave., Building F, Fort Myers, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Thursday afternoon United Way House, 1105 Cultural Parkway, Cape Coral, in Family Course:

Family in Family Courses: for loved ones of those diagnosed with a mental illness. Taught three to four times per year and is taught in various areas of Lee County.

Peer to Peer Course: for persons with a diagnosis of any mental illness. Taught three-four times per year in various locations in Lee Count.

Putting the Pieces Together, a support group for loved ones of adolescents, who have been diagnosed with a mental illness 6 to 8 p.m., Riverside Church 8660 Daniels Parkway, Main Building.

Rainbow Trails

Rainbow Trails, the Hope Hospice bereavement camp for children, needs male counselors to work with boys between the ages of 6 and 16.

The camp will be held in Ellenton from June 5 through 7. Bus transportation from Fort Myers is provided for the entire group.

Each counselor will be responsible for three boys. Duties may include supervision during recreation activities, entertainment and meals, and making sure the boys are accounted for each night.

Rainbow Trails is a highly rewarding experience for everyone involved.

All applicants will undergo a police background check.

Applicants must attend three training sessions, on April 27, May 4 and May 11 from 5 to 7 p.m., as well as the entire weekend of camp.

New Physicians Join Lee Memorial Health System Medical Staff

Lee Memorial Health System announce the following physicians joined the medical staff during the month of March.

Charles Henry, M.D. Teleradiology, obtained his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Warren Hutcheson, M.D. Emergency Medicine, obtained his medical degree and completed a Pediatrics Residency at Southern Illinois University. He completed a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Marianne Krouk, D.O. Psychiatry, obtained her osteopathic degree and completed her Internship at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Jinoo Tommy Lee, M.D. Family Practice, obtained his medical degree from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine in Belize. He completed a Family Practice Residency at Greenville Hospital, University Medical Center. Adikkan Rajagopal, M.D. Anesthesiology, obtained his medical degree at Thanjavur Medical College. He completed a Rotational Internship at Altoona Hospital and an Anesthesiology Residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center. He will be working with Anesthesia & Pain Consultants.

Henry Zimmerman, M.D. Emergency Medicine, obtained his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School and an Emergency Medicine Residency from Allegheny General Hospital.
