Extreme Makeover Mailbox contest
Mailbox Improvement Month is not until May, but the Fort Myers/Cape Coral Post Offices are holding an “Extreme Makeover Mailbox” contest in preparation for the month.
Check out the mailbox and see if it needs a facelift. If so, make plans now to spiff it up and enter the contest. The rules are:
– Take a photo of the existing mailbox that needs a makeover.
– Make the changes and take a photo of the new mailbox.
– Mail both photos, along with name, address and phone number, to USPS Consumer Council, 79 Mid Cape Terrace, Cape Coral, FL 33991.
Entries will be accepted until today.

Job Search Support Group
Energize your job search through free personalized assistance, networking and dynamic presenters at the biweekly Job Search Support Group meeting and connect with others in a faith-based setting. This week’s speaker is from the HORC Home Ownership Resource Center and will discuss foreclosure prevention and how to negotiate a new mortgage. Book and rummage sale
Friends of the Dunbar Jupiter Hammon Public Library Inc. will hold a book and rummage sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at 3095 Blount St., Fort Myers. The library features the largest collection of African American books, magazines and newspapers in Southwest Florida. The sale is open to the public. For information, call 334-3602.

Book signing

Burroughs home

Donations needed
Lee County Animal Services has a great need for cat food and cat litter to stock the agency’s community pet pantry. Owners who need assistance may contact Lee County Animal Services at 533-7387 to be placed on an approved list to receive pet food. Anyone who can assist by donating pet food, especially cat food, cat litter or other pet products, may bring them to the shelter at 5600 Banner Drive in Fort Myers. Donations may be left at the door if the shelter is not open.

Bowditch Point Park
Take an educational walk through Matanzas Pass Preserve and Bowditch Point Park with a naturalist. Bring a hat, bug spray, water and a camera. Bowditch Point walks are held from 9:30-11 a.m. Tuesdays at 50 Estero Blvd., Fort Myers Beach. The walk is free with paid parking.
