Local artist paints burrowing owls
A local artist is capturing the antics of a burrowing owl family on canvas.
An owl family has nested in the neighborhood of the wine shop Time To Make Wine, and they are clearly the talk of the neighborhood.
Annette Watkins has painted one of the owls, affectionately named “Lil’ Hoot,” and will host a class for others to paint the new resident.
Watkins painted the owl after receiving a call from the wine shop owner describing the nest and owls. It was decided on the spot that the critters needed to be captured on canvas.
Learn to paint parties have been held at Time To Make Wine since November.
Participants show up to paint, and are provided with all painting supplies, hors d’oeuvres, a 16-by-20 canvas, brushes and paint setup, plus a free $10 Time To Make Wine gift certificate.
Students sip wine while painting their own masterpieces during the two-hour step-by-step instruction. Adults over 21 are welcome to reserve a spot in the all-inclusive class for $35 per person.
Drawing a straight line is not necessary, and prior painting or drawing experience is not a prerequisite.
The next class will be held from 6:30-9 p.m. today at 912 S.E. 46th Lane.
