Trash Cancer Slam

A brand new fishing tournament is coming to the waterways. “Trash Cancer Slam: Putting the Slam on Cancer” will benefit the American Cancer Society. Traditional “Junk Fish” of Lady Fish, Jack, and Catfish will be caught (and released) during this first-ever tournament. Rick Townes, event coordinator owns and operates Fisheye Graphics. He is hoping that all weekend warriors will register for the event, and not just the “professional” tournament entrants.

The event registration is $200, and there is no limit on the number anglers per vessel. There will be cash prizes for the biggest fish, the smallest fish, the oldest angler, and the youngest angler. Sponsors are being sought, as well as raffle items.

“I don’t want to ask businesses for money. I want to ask them for what they can give to me that will help give back to them,” Townes said.

For more information call Rick at 239-243-4511 or e-mail him at: rick@gotfisheye.com.

The event will be at Tarpon Point Marina on March 14. Weigh in is 2:30 p.m. The Captain’s Meeting is scheduled for March 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the empty lot owned by Chris Berardi between the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce and the Cape Coral Development Association.

There will be a raffle that is open to the public, and all proceeds of the raffle will also benefit the American Cancer Society. Raffle tickets will be $20 for 30 tickets. The goal is to raise as close to $20,000 as possible from the two-day event.

For More Information please contact Rick at 239-243-4511. The last day to register for the tournament is March 10.
