Thursday, Jan. 22, from 7 to 9 p.m., Recreational boating seminar. Resident fee is $15 and non-resident pay $18.
Saturday, Feb. 7, artificial lures seminar from 9 to 11 a.m. Cost for Cape residents $20 and $22 for non-residents. Registration is required.
Saturday, Feb. 14, Miami boat show bus trip, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Departure from the Cape Coral Yacht Club. Cost $59 per person. Registration required.

Friday, Jan. 23, take a day cruise from Captiva Island aboard the Lady Chadwich to Cabbage Key, Friday, Jan. 23. Leave the center at 8:15 a.m., arrive by 8 a.m.) Cost is $84 for members and $94 for non-members.
Friday, Jan. 30, An evening with medium, Dr. Robert Allen Fahey, 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $29.
Wednesdays, 1 to 3 p.m., Quickie Jewelry Crafting with Lynda Lea First class Cost is $14 for members, $18 per person non-member (supplies included).

‘Murder at Sunset’ cruises to begin
Banana Bay Tour Company and Over The Top out of Cape Harbour will start its “Murder at Sunset” cruise on Saturday, Jan. 31.
The comedy show is a mystery cruise where passengers have to put clues together to figure out the act’s killer.
The cruise, which will leave at 5 p.m. and return at 7 p.m., costs $40 per person. Passengers are welcome to bring their own food and drink.

The annual Volunteer Fair sponsored by the RSVP of Lee County will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Lakes Regional Library. This is the Martin Luther King Service Day project to encourage people of all ages to volunteer and to provide citizens with a way to find that perfect opportunity.

Festival of Beers
The 5th Annual Ballpark Festival of Beers, brought to you by Miracle Professional Baseball, returns to Hammond Stadium, 14400 Six Mile Cypress Parkway, Fort Myers, on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 4 to 9 p.m. Southwest Florida’s largest beer testing event features a plentiful assortment of different beers from all over the world. If your palate doesn’t go for beer, wine sampling is also available.

Wings of Freedom Tour
The Collings Foundation brings its Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress “Nine O Nine” heavy bomber, Consolidated B-24J Liberator “Witchcraft” heavy bomber and North American Dual Control P-51C Mustang “Betty Jane” to Page Field General Aviation Airport on Monday, Jan. 26 through Wednesday, Jan. 28.
The public is invited to take ground tours or make reservations for flight experiences. Walkthrough tours are available for a donation of $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. Ground tour and display hours are 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27; and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

Writing contest
The Gulf Coast Writers Association takes great pleasure in encouraging writers from Southwest Florida to enter the 2008 -2009 Gulf Writers Association Writing Contest. Original works of fiction, nonfiction and poetry will be awarded prizes of $100, $50 and $25 for first, second and third place in each category. The contest is open to members and non-members.
Fiction and nonfiction works must be at least 800 words and no more than 2,000. Poetry is limited to 40 lines or less. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 31 and winners must be present to receive their awards at the March 28 meeting.
The contest will help GCWA fulfill its goal of assisting Southwest Florida writers to stimulate and improve their skills. GCWA expects a high level of contest participation.

Taste of Broadway
Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre is creating a cookbook and is in need of favorite home-cooked recipes. Executive chef Gregory Van Horn and the cast of Church Basement Ladies will select the recipes for the upcoming cookbook, “A Taste of Broadway.” The theatre is accepting recipes until Jan. 31. “Church Basement Ladies” is a musical comedy playing through March 29, in The Off Broadway Palm Theatre.
