Weight Loss Surgery Program

Weight Loss Surgery Program information session for anyone interested in learning more about safe and effective weight loss surgical options will be held today at 6:30 p.m. at Cape Coral Hospital Life Center, 656 Del Prado Blvd.

The surgical program is led by bariatric surgeon Moses Shieh from Suncoast Surgical Associates. He is board-certified in general surgery, fellowship trained in bariatric surgery and cosmetic surgery, and is a member of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery.

Lake Kennedy Senior Center

A new class, The Complete Workout with Marlene, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7 p.m. Classes start Feb. 3. Cost is $40 per month for eight sessions for members and $72 per month for eight sessions for non-members.

Methods of Relaxation and Stretch with Eileen Coppola will be held Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. The class is designed for the entire family. Cost for adults is $6 for members and $10 for non-members. Children ages 6-17 are $3, and children 5 and under are free.

Rotary Park

The zumba/yoga class meets Wednesdays from 5:30-6:45 p.m. The next session is Wednesday-March 18. Cost is $44 for Cape residents and $48 for non-residents. There is no class Feb. 18. This is an intense dance workout with Latin music, then relax with yoga.

Local volunteer opportunities

The Senior Friendship Centers is seeking an administrative assistant to help with the Health and Wellness Program in North Fort Myers or to assist at the main office in Fort Myers. Some duties include answering the phone, scheduling appointments, collection of patient fees, filing, copying, organizing patient files, ordering supplies and equipment and greeting patients. Similar skills are needed for the main office including contact with clients. Bilingual is a plus. Call Cathy at 275-1881.

Volunteers are needed for the 9th Annual Reading Festival to be held March 25 at Centennial Park in Fort Myers. Opportunities are available for set up the day before and assistance during the daylong event as well as clean up after the event is over. Annual “A Light to Remember in Centennial Park”

The Alvin A. Dubin Alzheimer’s Resource Center and Fox Electronics will sponsor the 11th annual “A Light to Remember in Centennial Park” on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. A special ceremony to honor and remember these individuals will be held during the event in Centennial Park near the fountain on Edwards Drive in downtown Fort Myers. Parkinson’s seminar

Today, over 1 million people in the United States have Parkinson’s disease. The National Parkinson Foundation Outreach Center is offering a series of Lunchs ‘n Learn programs to bring needed information to the Parkinson community as a group. Medication management is vital to quality of life. The seminar is intended to help those who live with this chronic disease to become informed consumers. The seminar will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center auditorium, 3945 Fowler St., Fort Myers. The presenter is Ramon A. Yoga series, classes

Yoga, a 12-week series, will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursdays, now through March 26, in the Fiesta Room at Siesta Bay with Debbie Padnuk. Non-residents are welcome.
