Ball appointed to leadership committee
Robert M. Ball, A.A.E., executive director of the Lee County Port Authority, recently was appointed by the Florida Department of Transportation to represent the Florida Airports Council on the Florida Strategic Intermodal System Leadership Committee.
“I am honored to represent Florida airports and provide input to FDOT on the direction for planning and managing Florida’s complex transportation system,” Ball said in a prepared statement.
Ball joined the Lee County Port Authority in 1993 as deputy executive director and became executive director in 1996. During his administration, Ball has directed the planning, funding, construction and move to the new $438 million terminal at Southwest Florida International Airport and led the renaissance of Page Field General Aviation Airport.
Ball has held numerous leadership roles with FAC, including serving as past president of the association and most recently as a member of the board of directors. He also is past chairman of the Statewide Florida Airport System Planning Committee and is a founding member of two statewide initiatives – the Florida Aviation and Aerospace Alliance and the Commission on the Future of Aeronautics and Space in Florida.
The SIS was created by the governor and legislature in 2003 to enhance Florida’s economic competitiveness by focusing on high-priority transportation facilities, including commercial airports, seaports, passenger and freight rail terminals, waterways and highways.
