USBC Bowl for the Cure
The 2nd Annual SWF USBC Breast Cancer Awareness Benefit, USBC Bowl for the Cure, event is scheduled for Sunday at Friendship Lanes, 1899 Del Prado Blvd. S.
Proceeds will benefit Susan G. Women for the Cure Southwest Florida Affiliate. There will be three divisions for men, women and youth so families are encouraged to attend. There will be two squads at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The cost is $25 per bowler. There will also be awards and chance drawings.

Red Cross Boat Scramble
The Red Cross Boat Scramble is Jan. 17 at Cape Harbour Marina.
The Boat Scramble is open to all boaters including personal watercraft. The stops were designed to allow small and large crafts to participate.
Boat entries are $200 and include one poker hand. Additional $25 entry tickets can be purchased.
By supporting the Lee County Red Cross, participants are helping save and change lives in their own community as the Lee County chapter has been doing for more than 90 years.

C.A.R.E.S. high school challenge
Lee County high schools and youth groups are competing in a family-friendly show for a $1,500, prize for their fine arts department with celebrity MCs, Bear & Stacy, from Cat Country and celebrity judges Steve Shore (WAY FM), Joe Winner (B103.9) and Mark Steele (96Krock).
This is a Community Awareness in Recognizing and Educating on Suicide annual fund-raiser to bring the community together for suicide prevention.
Silent auction and bake sale will be held before show and during intermission. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Show begins at 6:30 p.m.
Charge is $10 for adults and $5 for children and students. Tickets may be purchased by calling 945-2737 or at the door on the night of event.
Participants include Cypress Lake High School Center for the Arts, Ida S. Baker High School, Mariner High School, Fort Myers High School, Lehigh High School Center for the Arts, Island Coast High School, VOX Youth Group, Next Level Youth Group and Maranatha Dance.

2009 ‘A Light To Remember’
The Alvin A. Dubin Alzheimer’s Resource Center and Fox Electronics will sponsor the 11th annual “A Light To Remember” at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at Centennial Park in Fort Myers.
A Light To Remember is a special event created to help raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and related memory impairments and raise much-needed funds for the Dubin Alzheimer’s Resource Center.
It will include a lighted display of luminaries purchased by families and friends to honor or remember a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or a related memory impairment.
A special ceremony to honor and remember these individuals will be held during the event at Centennial Park near the fountain on Edwards Drive.
Luminaries can be purchased in advance for $5 each. Anyone interested in purchasing a luminary in celebration of a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or a related memory impairment can call the Dubin Alzheimer’s Resource Center at 437-3007.
Family members and friends requesting a luminary in celebration of their loved ones are encouraged to send a color copy photo, poem or other special memory of their loved one with their luminary request.
The luminary display at the 2009 A Light To Remember will include a collage of these memories. Copies should be sent since photos and other materials from previous years are used in the display.

Breast Cancer Awareness Fashion Show and Luncheon
Tickets are still available for the Breast Cancer Awareness Fashion Show and Luncheon sponsored by From Our Hearts.
The Fashion Show will be held Jan. 26 at the Sandy Hook Restaurant in Matlacha. The doors open at 11 a.m. and the activities will be over by 3 p.m.
The event is being held to increase awareness of breast cancer and the role From Our Hearts plays in the community to support victims of the disease.
Proceeds from the day will benefit local breast cancer care.
Guest speakers will be Janet Darnell from Partner’s for Breast Cancer and Dara Leichter from Lee Cancer Care. Both organizations use the funds raised by From Our Hearts.
Tickets are available from the Sandy Hook Restaurant or any From Our Hearts member. Tables can be reserved by purchasing a minimum of four tickets.
The $40 ticket includes food with a vegetarian plate available upon request, prizes, guest speakers and a fashion show with fashions provided by Belk and modeled by breast cancer survivors.
There is also an opportunity to sign up for the yearly From Our Hearts 5K walk, which will be held March 14, and to see the 49cc Wildfire Scooter, which is the big ticket drawing for this years BreastFest.
