Cape Coral Social Club
The Cape Coral Social Club will meet Thursday, Jan. 8, and present a program featuring Spay Lee, an animal rescue organization dedicated to finding homes for dogs and cats due to loss of ownership or natural disasters. The program will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Cape Coral Yacht Club on Driftwood Parkway.

Cape Coral Irish Club
The Cape Coral Irish American Club meets the first Thursday of the month, unless otherwise notified, at the Cape Coral Elks Club located at 4631 S.E. 10th Place. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. The next meeting is Thursday, Jan. 8.
The purpose of the club is to advance the knowledge of Irish culture in our community.

Cape Historical Society
The next meeting of the Cape Coral Historical Society will be Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 2:30 p.m., at Cultural Park Theatre, 528 Cultural Park Blvd.
Tom Smoot, author of “The Edison’s of Fort Myers” and “Discoveries of the Heart,” will discuss the famous inventor and his wife, their time in Fort Myers and their contributions to the world. Everyone is invited.

Friends of the Cape Coral Library
The next meeting of the Friends of the Cape Coral Library is Saturday, Jan. 17, at 9:30 a.m., with a continental breakfast and social hour. This month, detective novelist Art Adkins will talk about and sign copies of his new book, “The Oasis Project.”

New Resident Club
The New Resident Club of Cape Coral provides opportunities for new residents of Cape Coral to become acquainted and make friends by participating in socials, group activities and meetings. It also advises new residents of services and facilities that are available in Cape Coral.
The New Resident Club meets at 9 a.m. the first Tuesday (Jan. 6) of each month at the Cape Coral Yacht Club, 5819 Driftwood Parkway. Gatherings start with a social hour followed by a 10 a.m. general meeting.
A one-year membership to the club is $15. Social/dinner dances are held the fourth Saturday from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $18 per person.

Cape Coral Quilters Guild
The Cape Coral Quilters Guild meets every Monday at Christ Lutheran Church, 2911 Del Prado Blvd. The group welcomes anyone who is interested in quilting.
On the first Monday of the month the club meets in the school cafeteria from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. On the second, fourth and fifth Mondays, it meets from 1-3 p.m. in the school cafeteria. On the third Monday of the month, it holds a business meeting from 1-3 p.m. in Hafner Hall.

The Riverdale Kiwanis Club will hold its annual Medieval Faire on the weekends of Jan. 10-11 and Jan. 17-18, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Lakes Regional Park in Fort Myers.

Substitute Teachers
The Lee County Association of Substitute Teachers will hold its first meeting of the new year Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Lehigh Senior High School, 901 Gunnery Road, Lehigh Acres.
The program will consist of a meet-and-greet coffee hour from 8:30-9 a.m.; a welcome by President Marvin Goetz and the meeting begins at 9 a.m.
The meeting will feature two special programs: a presentation by students of the creative arts group and, Bringing Laughter into the Classroom, by Lauren Zagorin, Yoga instructor. A short business meeting will follow. For additional information, call 532-1746.

The Fort Myers Coin Club will hold its Winter 2009 Coin Show Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Elks Lodge, 1900 Park Meadows Drive, Fort Myers, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission and parking is free.

Fort Myers Beach Yacht Club
The monthly meeting of the Fort Myers Beach Yacht Club, founded 1953 and consisting of over 100 members, will be held Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the American Legion Post on Buttonwood Drive, San Carlos Island.
Dinner will be catered, $14 per person, social hour begins at 6 p.m., dinner at 6:50, guest speaker at 7:40 and the meeting starts at 8.

Fort Myers Beach Shrine Club
Fort Myers Beach Shrine Club’s membership meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month. All Shriners are welcome to attend any meeting, it is nor necessary to be a member of the club to attend.
The club’s socials and dinners with entertainment are held on the fourth Thursday of the month. The club hosts a bingo every Friday, open to the public. Early bird bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. with regular bingo starting at 7 p.m. with three jackpots of up to $250 each. Free coffee is served during the playing session with free donuts served during intermission.
