Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Cape Coral Library announce a new exhibit which runs throughout December. The Gallery, located at the Cape Coral Library, 921 S.W. 39th Terrace, off Mohawk Boulevard, is open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The new exhibit will feature the works of Jessi Dilich and Al and Martha Busch.

Jessi Dilich paints everything from animals and people to flowers, seascapes and scenes. She travels with camera in hand and then captures those memories on canvas. She contributes to the Arts for Act Auction and is a member of the Pine Island Art Association.

Al and Martha Busch have traveled extensively throughout the world including Central and South America, the Caribbean, Fiji Islands, Egypt and Kenya. The collection they share contains pieces of native artwork and crafts reflecting he cultures they have observed.

Friends of the Cape Coral Library are community members and volunteers who support the activities of the library. Annual membership is $10 for individuals, $50 for civic benefactor and $100 for corporate benefactor. Meetings are held the third Saturday of January, March, May, July, September and November. ‘Contemporary Abstraction Exhibit’

Cape Coral Arts Studio announces a call to artists for its “Contemporary Abstraction Exhibit” to be presented in the Fine Arts Gallery on Friday through Dec. 26.

In keeping with the theme, work must be abstraction, free of recognizable subject matter, as found in any of the contemporary and modern styles found in the 20th and 21st centuries.

This multi-media juried competition is open to area artists.

A reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 12. For information, call 574-0802.

Winter Luncheon

The Decorative Artists of Southwest Florida will have its annual Winter Luncheon on Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. at Colonial Country Club, 9181 Independence Way, Fort Myers.

Cost is $22 per person. The event includes a silent auction, raffled gift baskets, $10 and under stocking stuffer table entertainment and lunch.

‘Al Oerter: Artist and Athlete’

In honor of the late Al Oerter, the Alliance for the Arts will unveil “Al Oerter: Artist and Athlete” in its gallery opening Friday at 5 p.m.

A natural movement dance will be performed during the opening reception by his wife, Cathy Oerter.

Angels of Art

If anyone knows an individual or company who has made an outstanding contribution to the arts in Lee County, the Alliance for the Arts is now accepting nomination applications, due by Jan. 30.

All individuals or companies recognized will be honored at the Academy Award-style event on April 6 at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater.
