Suicide Prevention Walk
C.A.R.E.S. Suicide Prevention will host the Second Annual Suicide Prevention Walk
On Saturday (rain or shine). Registration starts at 10 a.m.,. The walk starts at noon. The walk will be held at Tarpon Point Marina, 5902 Silver King Blvd.
The registration few of $10. per walker includes a t-shirt, water and lunch
Walk and remember loved ones lost to suicide. Bring friends. The walk is an opportunity to bring the issues of suicide prevention and awareness into the community and the more of us who walk, the more we will be seen.
To recognize a loved one at the walk, consider carrying a sign, banner or photo. If walking with a team, choose to all wear the same color.

Free Thanksgiving Dinner
The Cape Coral Elks Lodge located in Club Square, at 4631 S.E. 10th Place, will be hosting their first free Thanksgiving dinner, open to the public, starting at noon until 4 p.m. (or till the food runs out). No reservations needed.
For the past 10 years the Cape Coral Elks Lodge has been involved with the free Thanksgiving dinner event that was held at the Paradise Tiki Hut owned by Mike and Wendy Erion.

Destiny Diaper Bank
Destiny Diaper Bank (501c3) has a list of 40 local babies in need of a crib, mattress, and sheets.
Cash donations or items can be mailed or delivered to Destiny diaper Bank, 1510 S.E. 46th Lane, Cape Coral, 33904 Attn: Rev. Rebecca Himes. Call 549-2130.
If 250 people send just $20, these babies will be supplied with proper bedding.
Senior Friendship Centers
Daily hot lunches are provided at 11 Lee County “Friendship Cafe’s” to people 60 plus and volunteers of all ages. The cafes also offer free exercise programs, arts and crafts and more.
Local Friendship Cafe is located at Lake Kennedy Senior Center, 400 Santa Barbara Blvd., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday to Friday. Reservations for meals are required 24-hours in advance. A $3 donation is suggested to help cover the cost of the meals, however no one is denied a meal if unable to donate. You do not have to be a Lake Kennedy Senior Center member to attend

Rhythm in Motion Dance Academy
Yoga classes are now being held at the Rhythm In Motion Dance Academy.
Brucie, Doris and Judi of the Purusha Center are offer several yoga classes per week. The program is really taking off, and classes are filling up fast.

Turkey Dinner
Anyone who plans on an oven-roasted or smoked turkey, a ham or a perfect pie this Thanksgiving should do their shopping at one of the following Lee Memorial Health System hospitals: Cape Coral Hospital, Lee Memorial Hospital, HealthPark Medical Center, Gulf Coast Hospital, or Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center.
Lee Memorial Health System has teamed up with Mason’s Bakery and the HoneyBaked Ham Company again this year for a fundraiser to benefit those in the armed services.
Choose seven- or nine-pound spiral hams, roasted or smoked turkey breasts, or a roasted or smoked whole turkey for dinner. Nine-inch pies come in six flavors, including apple, pumpkin, pecan, chocolate cream, peanut butter cream, and key lime. Assorted mini dessert boxes with 30 pieces of desserts will be sold for $20. Pies are $12 to $14 each and meats range from $25 to $60.
A portion of each sale will be donated to the LMHS Military Support Fund. Order forms are available at Mason’s Bakery, 1615 Hendry St. in downtown Fort Myers, and at the HoneyBaked Ham Company, 11701 S. Cleveland Ave. in Fort Myers. You can also have an order form mailed, faxed, or emailed to you by calling 343-9690.
Deadline to place an order is Wednesday, Nov. 19. Checks and monet order (payable to “LMHS Military Support”) forms must be received by then.
Orders must be picked up either Monday, Nov. 24, or Tuesday, Nov 25.. Times and locations for pickup are listed on the order form.
Ice packs will be given with meat products. Desserts must be refrigerated within 24 hours after pickup.
No refunds will be given if fail to pick up the order.

Holiday Tree Trimming
Candlelighters of Southwest Florida, Inc will celebrate the holiday season with the 4th Annual Holiday Tree Trimming at Country Inn & Suites, 13901 Shell Point Plaza off Summerlin Road this evening from 5 to7 p.m.
Donation envelopes and gold ribbons, the symbol for childhood cancer, will be placed on the tree throughout the holiday season. These decorations will help raise awareness and much needed financial support for the Candlelighters mission in Southwest Florida. .

After-hours Sports Clinic
Pediatric Orthopedics of Southwest Florida is offering an after-hours Sports Clinic for young athletes injured in sports or weekend activities, such as Friday night football sprains, strains and breaks to falls in gymnastics, skateboarding accidents, and more. It is the only clinic of its kind in Southwest Florida and is staffed by a highly-trained team in Sports Medicine, which specializes in diagnosing and treating children and teens with sports-related injuries.

Project Blue Light
This year, the beginnings of a new tradition will take root in Lee County: Project Blue Light. Part memorial event, part fundraising endeavor, Project Blue Light seeks to raise the awareness of the sacrifices made by those in law enforcement.
A Wreath Lighting ceremony at Centennial Park on Dec. 4, at 5:45 p.m., each bearing a single blue light, will unveil the names of fallen officers which will be read aloud.
Smaller custom wreaths and window candles, all featuring a blue candlelight, are being sold as a fundraiser. For more information call 677-4343; LeeCountyBadgefHonor.org.
Taste of the Town
The Junior League of Fort Myers’ 2008 Taste of the Town food drive resulted in approximately 5,000 pounds of donated food for Community Cooperative Ministries, Inc.’s (CCMI) Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry at the 26th Annual Taste of the Town held Nov. 2 at Centennial Park in downtown Fort Myers.
Over 10,000 people attended the family-oriented food and entertainment festival featuring signature dishes from over 32 local restaurants.
The Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry’s mission is to provide nutritious meals and groceries to the homeless, seniors, working poor, children and the frail in our community, but their work is becoming more challenging everyday.
CCMI serves Fort Myers and the greater Lee County area, including Bonita Springs, Cape Coral and Lehigh Acres. In addition to meals and groceries: Meals on Wheels, the Dunbar Montessori School, Senior Transportation.
Family and Homeless Service; a noontime meal six days a week to men, women, and children; packaged meals and beverages for the homebound hungry and operate a food pantry. Through the Hands & Hearts Childcare program they serve two nutritious meals a day to children.
CCMI also partners with Wake Up America, the Harry Chapin Food Bank, Family Health Centers, Goodwheels, Senior Friendship Centers, and Child Care of Southwest Florida. CCMI is an United Way agency.

Sarah Owen, executive director of Community Cooperative Ministries Inc., has announced that Jo Anna Bradshaw and John Klass have joined the board of directors.
Bradshaw has become involved with a number of local organizations aimed at ending hunger and homlelessness.
Klass is a 12-year resident of Fort Myers. He has long been a driving force in the Fort Myers community, providing food to homeless and nearly homeless, as well as emergency groceries and affordable childcare to the working poor.
