Operation Defend the Holidays

United For The Troops and Sellstate Advantage Realty have joined together to try to make the holidays for men and woman serving in Iraq and Afghanistan a little brighter. Mike and Patti Kelly of Sellstate Advantage Realty have joined their children who started “Operation Defend the Holidays” in 2007.

Last year United For The Troops sent over 400 packages to our troops. The goal this year is to double that to 800. This past Saturday in Mahopac NY a fund-raiser was held and they raised over $3,000 and they received thousands of items the troops are living without.

Go to www.unitedforthetroops.org for a full story on their organization and also for a list of what items soldiers are missing.

Also, if anyone knows a soldier who is deployed and would like them to receive a package, go to Web site and sign them up at: www.unitedforthetroops.org.

Sellstate Advantage Realty is located at 703 Cape Coral Parkway West right next to Houlihan’s restaraunt. For further information call 549-9200.

Tux and Trees

Tickets to Southwest Florida’s premier holiday celebration are now on sale. “Tux and Trees Gala” tickets are available for purchase online and over the telephone. The glamorous black-tie holiday affair will be hosted on Dec. 5 at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in the Fort Myers River District.

The Tux and Trees gala (www.tuxandtrees.com) is the climax of the week-long “Festival of Trees,” and is the signature fund-raising event of Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida. Last year’s inaugural event raised over $55,000 to support Goodwill’s mission of helping people with disabilities and other disadvantages overcome their barriers to employment and independence.

Beautifully decorated holiday trees, lavish wreaths, and other items will be auctioned at the Tux and Trees gala to raise money for Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida. This year’s black-tie celebration will be hosted by Sarah Augusthy, the co-anchor of “WINK News This Morning.” Auction duties will be handled by co-host Scott Robertson, one of Florida’s top fund-raising auctioneers.

Tickets for the Tux and Trees gala are $100 per person, and include entertainment, complimentary valet parking service, wine and hors d’oeuvres. Call (866) 995-2106 ext. 249 or visit: www.tuxandtrees.com to purchase tickets to the affair.

Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida builds lives, families, and communities-one job at a time by helping people with disabilities and other barriers to employment discover and develop their full potential through work and career development services.
