Cape Coral
New bishop
A new bishop has been chosen to lead the Cape Coral Congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. David Thomas and his wife, Catherine, have one son, Preston, and three daughters, Sydney, Erica and Fern. Bishop Thomas works in television production and has taught at Ida Baker High School. Catherine volunteers at Trafalgar Elementary School and serves in the primary presidency of the church.
New High Councilor
Charles Johnson was called to serve as a member of an advisory council for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Johnson has been serving as the Bishop of the Cape Coral Congregation of the Church since 2004. In his new position, he will be traveling and speaking throughout the area from Venice, Charlotte County, Lee County and Collier County as far south as Everglades City. Bishop Johnson and his wife, Barbara, have lived in Cape Coral since 1992. They are the parents of 10 grown children and have nine grandchildren. One son has returned from three and one-half tours of duty in Iraq. Another son is a staff sergeant in the Air Force and has been deployed to Iraq. A third son is a technical sergeant in the Air Force, serving in Idaho. Their eldest son is retired from the Army and works as an information technology manager. Five of their daughters work for medical clinics.
Cape Christian Fellowship

Cape Coral First United Church
Prayer and Praise Service will be at 7 p.m, Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the chapel. This month’s theme is “Angels Among Us.”

DayBreak Fellowship
DayBreak Fellowship meets for a contemporary worship and music service at Cape Coral High School auditorium on Santa Barbara Boulevard. Sunday worship, 10:45 a.m. (Nursery and kids church during service). Sunday small groups meet at 9:30 a.m.

Youth Group for middle school and high school students (sixth grade through 12th grade) meets from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., Wednesday at the Freida B. Smith Special Populations Center, 400 Santa Barbara Blvd. Adult Bible Study will discuss “Jesus Triumphant,” a study of the book of Revelation, with related points from Daniel and other books.
Come and discover real-life truths from one of the most controversial books in the Bible. Study runs through Nov. 9. Evangelical Presbyterian Church
Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Cape Coral is beginning the fall women’s Bible study. Fall session run through Nov. 18. Women of the Word is a program that brings women in the Lee County area together to support one another in faith. This fall season women from a variety of faith backgrounds meet weekly to study “Hosea.” We are continuing the study with the book from the New Testament in the spring. While women who are mothers are involved in the study, their children have a special program for all ages. The study is done in small groups that become support groups as relationships are developed. The study meets from 9 to 11 a.m. or 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesdays, at Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 701 Mohawk Parkway. There is a complete nursery and children’s program including homeschoolers.

Hope United Methodist Church
Hope United Methodist Church will begin hosting a 13-week GriefShare group at 7 p.m., Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 10. GriefShare is a special seminar/support group for people grieving the death of someone close and is open to the public. Registration information is available through the church office, 574-5570.

New Hope Baptist Fellowship
New Hope Baptist Fellowship’s morning worship service is at 9 or 11 a.m. Sunday school for all ages at 8 or 10 a.m. Sunday evening worship at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday evening prayer meeting is at 6:30 p.m., plus AWANA for kids and A.C.T.S for youth. Turning Point Ministries
A new and exciting church is about to open in Cape Coral. Turning Point Ministries will begin services at 10 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 14, with praise and worship, followed by a message by Pastor D. Services will be held at the Cape Coral Youth Center, 315 S.W Second Ave. (behind the Cape Bowling Lanes).

Aglow International

Fort Myers Shores Seventh-day Adventist Church
Longtime concert and evangelistic soloist Roy Pauley will be presenting a program of Southern Gospel and Inspirational music on Saturday , Sept. 13, at the Fort Myers Shores Seventh-day Adventist Church. Appearing with Pauley will be his wife, Amy, who is his piano accompanist and also joins him on an occasional vocal duet. This year Pauley celebrates 50 years as a gospel music performer.
