9-11 Day of Remembrance set at Cape Harbour
A Day of Remembrance has been set to honor the fallen crew members of American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Flight 175, American Airlines Flight 77 and and United Airlines Flight 93.
Organizers invite all airline employees, family members and the public to the gathering to be held Sept. 11 outside Rumrunners of Cape Harbour. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and last about 1-1/2 hours, organizers said.
A number of speakers and dignitaries are expected to be present. Cape Coral City Manager Terry Stewart will open the ceremonies by singing the National Anthem. The Lee County Marine Ops will have boats present to show their support as will K-9 Search and Rescue. The names of the fallen crew members will be read by a former United Flight attendant and an American Airlines pilot.
Airline employees who attend are invited to wear their uniform or distinguishing items such as wings or pins. Others should feel free to wear something patriotic.
The restaurant will open for service after the remembrance. Those who wish to stay for lunch are invited to share stories and feelings with others of like background or mind.
Rumrunners of Cape Harbour is located at 5848 Cape Harbour Drive in Cape Coral.
