Allyson Dunn fund raiser set for Sunday at Jim Jeffers Park
The Cape Coral community continues to rally support and help raise money to help care for 2-year-old Allyson Dunn.
Allyson Dunn is the daughter of Christy Lozier Dunn, who lost her life Jan. 25, when she was fatally shot inside the Bobby Noonan Child Care Facility, allegedly by her estranged husband Robert Harold Dunn.
Proceeds from the Family Fun Festival, which will be held on Sunday at Jim Jeffers Park, will be held in a trust fund for the little girl until she turns 21.
“It is incredible how the community has come together to show support,” said Sabrina McGuire-Byrne, Family Fun Festival event coordinator. “The community has donated everything to make this happen.”
Little Allyson is being cared for by her maternal grandparents who are in their ’60s. McGuire-Byrne said the event organizers and the family came together to decide what to do with the money to best serve Allyson.
“She can have the money when she is 21 and at that point can use it for whatever,” said McGuire-Byrne. “Whether that be a car or a house or whatever she needs at that point.”
McGuire-Byrne, whose older child was in “Ms. Christy’s” class a few years ago and who still had a son who attends the daycare on a part-time basis, said she put the event together to try to have the community remember not the tragedy, but to mark how the community can come together.
“She took care of all of these children, including mine, so now it is time for us to help take care of hers,” said McGuire-Byrne.
The event, which is being held from noon until 6 p.m., will feature a host of children’s activities, raffles and live entertainment.
“We have so much going on,” said McGuire-Byrne. “There is definitely something for everyone to do.”
Admission to the event is free and includes the live music and performances. A $15 bracelet can be purchased at the event for children who would like to take part in pony rides, jewelry making, face painting, balloon art or one of the dozens of inflatables located throughout the park.
Performances and musical guests will include a magician, clowns, a disc jockey, DVS, Wildfire, The Storms, 772 Kick Karate, Southern Stars Gymnastics, Maranata, Studio of Dance, Celtic Irish Step and Dance Dimensions. In addition to all the activities and entertainment a silent auction and tons of raffle prizes will be given out.
Raffle and auction items include: a cruise, a new car, a bike, an XBOX 360, candles, hair care products, kids toys, fishing trips, passes to Pepe’s Playhouse and The Imaginarium, baby blankets, a mini ATV, braces and a Shia Tzu puppy.
