Cape Coral baker Bess Charles releases new children’s book: ‘The Adventures of LadyCakes: The Courage of Cookie Dough’
The owner of a popular Cape Coral bakery has once again stepped into the realm of children’s books, bringing to life a confection-based character that’s sure to bring smiles, as well as teach lessons.
Bess Charles, award-winning entrepreneur and owner of LadyCakes Bakery, has written her second children’s book, “The Adventures of LadyCakes: The Courage of Cookie Dough.”
The follow-up to her 2019 debut, “The Adventures of LadyCakes: Kindness is Sweet,” continues her mission of blending life lessons with sweetness and creativity.
“I always had the intention of creating other stories in the series of the adventures of LadyCakes,” Charles said of her second book. “This story is all about being unique and different and owning who you are, which has always been a strong theme that I standby.”
According to Charles, the story introduces young readers to Cookie Dough, a shy blob of cookie dough who learns that being different is what makes him truly special. With encouragement from LadyCakes, Cookie Dough discovers the courage to embrace who he is in a world filled with sprinkles, frosting, and fun.
“(The book) is great for young impressionable children who sometimes don’t fit the average mold,” Charles said. “Between the ages of 4 and 8, children try so hard to fit in, and I think it’s an important lesson for them to understand that fitting in sometimes isn’t always what needs to happen, sometimes it’s standing out and being uniquely you.”
In 2019, Bess expanded her creative reach by publishing her first children’s book, “The Adventures of LadyCakes: Kindness is Sweet,” which introduced readers to a “magical world where desserts and life lessons go hand-in-hand. Her new title continues the whimsical series with a heartfelt message about courage and self-acceptance.”
“Creativity comes in all different formats while I love to create it’s not always in the same medium,” Charles said. “Writing children’s books and sharing positive messages has always been something I’ve strived to do not only as a business owner as a mom as a community leader and now as a children’s author.”
“The adventures of LadyCakes, The Courage of Cookie Dough,” will be holding local book signing throughout the community in the month of December.
There will be an official launch party after the holidays.
