Greater Fort Myers Chamber’s June 13 luncheon to share update on economic development in Lee County

By Staff | Jun 8, 2023

The Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13 and will share insights on economic development in Lee County.

During the luncheon, attendees will hear from John Talmage, director of the Lee County Economic Development Office (Lee EDO), discussing current events and new developments coming to Lee County as well as economic resources available to businesses in Lee County.

Talmage will highlight Lee EDO’s interactive Development Activity Story Map that allows the public to explore new private development projects and investment activity in the county. This will help businesses looking to expand or move into the Lee County area search for available property. Talmage will also discuss Workforce Training and Certification Programs, which offer micro and rapid credentialing in response to the insufficient education and skills for affected communities, and the Small Business Technical Assistance Program.

Talmage has spent more than 30 years working in local economic and community development, both for municipal governments and national research organizations. Before he was named director of economic development for Lee County, he was chief of staff to the city of Fort Myers’ city manager and served on the city of Sanibel’s Planning Commission.

Talmage began his career working for the New York City Council and previously directed economic development for the City of New Orleans, served as a senior policy advisor for Mayors Diaz of Miami and Mallory of Cincinnati, and was CEO and president of Social Compact. He has been recognized for his work in community development by both the United States Congress and the New York State Assembly and has received over 35 awards for his contributions to economic and community development around the country.

The Chamber luncheon will take place at Crowne Plaza Fort Myers at Bell Tower, located at 13051 Bell Tower Drive, in Fort Myers. Admission is $25 for Chamber members and $35 for future members and includes lunch.

The June Luncheon is sponsored by HBKS Wealth Advisors. To learn more or to register, visit FortMyers.org or call 239-332-2930.
