By Staff | Nov 21, 2022

Today, the Leapfrog Group released its Fall 2022 Hospital Safety Grades, awarding HealthPark Medical Center, Cape Coral Hospital, Gulf Coast Medical Center and Lee Memorial Hospital the highest honor of an “A” grade. This marks the ninth straight reporting period that all Lee Health Hospitals have received a grade of “B” or higher.

HealthPark Medical Center earned an “A” grade for the seventh straight reporting period, and Gulf Coast Medical Center earned an “A” for the second straight reporting period. Lee Memorial Hospital and Cape Coral Hospital improved from a “B” grade to an “A.”

“I am proud to work alongside a team that always strives to go above and beyond for their patients,” said Dr. Stephanie Stovall, chief clinical officer of quality/safety & hospital-based care for Lee Health. “Our patients trust us and we don’t take that for granted. We constantly challenge ourselves to be better, and we are committed to always providing the highest quality of care to those we serve.”

The Safety Grade assigns letter grades of “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” and “F” to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms.

Leapfrog’s high standards were developed under the guidance of a national expert panel. Twice each year, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 22 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,700 acute-care hospitals in the U.S. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

Children’s hospitals are not included in The Leapfrog Group’s fall grades. However, the Leapfrog Group has named Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida as a Top Children’s Hospital four times.
