‘Laughs and Brews” Sept. 29

at Eight-Foot Brewing in Cape

Eight-Foot Brewing in Cape Coral is hosting “Laughs and Brews,” a live stand-up comedy event, Thursday, Sept. 29, starting at 7 p.m.

Headlining the Laughs On the Go event will be Sloan, who has performed with Tracy Morgan and John Witherspoon and has been seen on Hulu, LMAO TV and Comic View. The show will also feature Trevor Glassman from Tampa, who has performed on ESPN, CBS and Second City, and worked with Jay Mohr, Bob Zany, Trixx and more.

Businesses Supporting Communities events is calling upon all Southwest Florida food trucks, restaurants and vendors. BSC hosts events throughout Southwest Florida, including WINK Taste of the Town, which will now take place on three separate dates in Fort Myers, Naples and Punta Gorda.

BSC’s mission is to connect Southwest Floridians with local businesses, and local charities through their events. Each of its events will feature and contribute to a local charitable organization. Hope Healthcare to host virtual Career Fair with interviews

Hope Healthcare will host an online Career Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On-the-spot interviews will be offered for multiple positions including RNs, LPNs, CNAs and Social Workers.

Interested candidates are required to register for a time slot by Oct. 10. Applicants will be asked to provide a resume or CV prior to their appointment. All participants will be entered in a drawing to win a $100 Visa gift card.

Fort Myers Brewing to hold

2022 Oktoberfest Oct. 6-9

Fort Myers Brewing Company’s popular Oktoberfest returns with a four-day event featuring craft beer, authentic German food and live music from Thursday, Oct. 6 through Sunday, Oct. 9 in Fort Myers.

Fort Myers Brewing is featuring festivities for families, friends and pets to enjoy all weekend long. A wide selection of locally brewed ales, stouts and lagers are on tap as well as several first-time releases of Fort Myers Brewing’s signature Oktoberfest beers, to be announced in the coming weeks. The brewery will also host a stein-hoisting competition, a traditional Bavarian endurance contest in which participants must hold a full stein in their outstretched arm as long as possible without spilling any beer.

Food truck rallies will feature German-inspired eats from popular trucks such as Currywurst, The Nosh Truck, Wicked Streatery, The Meat Cottage, Kings Tacos & Burritos and Mobstah Lobstah.

Vibe Yoga hosts registered yoga teacher training starting Oct. 10

Vibe Yoga is offering registered yoga teacher training starting Oct. 10 with an introductory overview. Classes for the 200-hour hybrid course, offering both online and in-person instruction, begin Oct. 17. The training will culminate with graduation from Feb. 17-19, 2023.

Students in the course will follow an independent online module for 120 hours. Each week, the training outlines the modules to complete, and then the class meets via Zoom from 7-9 p.m. every Monday, excluding holidays.

The 200-hour hybrid training will include: 120 self-paced online study hours; 60 hours of in-person or zoom training, which includes anatomy (taught by a physician), trauma-informed yoga training, practice teaching (how to write a sequence and teach a class to others), Stand up Paddleboard yoga or Ayurveda training; and 20 self-practice hours.

Leading the training is Lindsay Smith, Vibe Yoga founder and a 500-hour E-RYT teacher certified in trauma-informed yoga, Yoga Nidra, yoga for back pain, Teaching Yoga to Children and more.

Participants have the option of enrolling with a $220 deposit or may take advantage of discounted advance pricing of $2,200 when they pay in full before Oct. 1. After Oct. 1, enrollment is $2,800. Scholarships are available for local candidates, so that proper mentorship can be provided. Applicants must be willing to come in-person to the studio in Fort Myers and apply before Sept. 25. Martin new partner with Aloia, Roland, Lubell & Morgan, PLCC

Jonathan A. Martin has joined Aloia, Roland, Lubell & Morgan, PLCC as a new partner, specializing in personal injury and wrongful death cases.

An advocate of constitutional law, Martin’s journey now includes a bid for elected office. Endorsed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, Martin is seeking the Florida Senate seat for District 27 currently occupied by Sen. Ray Rodrigues. Martin, a Republican, has only a write-in opponent facing him in the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 8. If elected, he would be sworn in as the next Senator, representing most of Lee County, in late November.

A graduate of the Liberty University School of Law, Martin passed the Florida Bar and immediately went to work as Assistant State Attorney for Florida’s Twentieth Judicial Circuit from 2009-14. He was responsible for prosecuting all state crimes in Glades County for three years and was felony prosecutor for Lee County from 2012-14. In all, he handled over 6,000 cases and 89 trials.

Southwest Florida International announces August passenger count

During August, 620,532 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers. This was a decrease of 4 percent compared to August 2021; however, it was still the second-best August in the 39-year history of the airport. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 11 percent compared to last year.

The traffic leader in August was Delta with 162,532 total passengers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (115,590), American (105,547), JetBlue (72,551) and United (68,624).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 5,143 aircraft operations, a decrease of 23 percent compared to August 2021. Page Field (FMY) saw 16,125 operations, an 82 percent increase compared to August 2021, which made it the best single month at FMY in nearly 40 years.
