SRMA planning student plant tours for Manufacturing Month

The Southwest Regional Manufacturing Association is working with career and technical education directors throughout various counties in the region to organize student field trips at participating manufacturing companies. Manufacturing and its economic impacts are seen and felt every day of the year. It’s important we acknowledge this key industry every October as Manufacturing Month, with the first Friday designated as Manufacturing Day.

“The goal of these student tours is to generate excitement of having a career in manufacturing at the middle and high school levels,” says SRMA Executive Director Rob Harris. “In most cases, these students have no idea about the incredible products being created in our area. Manufacturing is no longer grease, grime, and smokestacks. Advanced technologies have created desirable workplaces for today’s youth. They just need to know they exist and explore them.”

The manufacturing industry is alive and well in Southwest Florida, and the SRMA works to bring manufacturers together to promote industry and individual growth through networking opportunities, making connections, sharing resources, and community involvement. If you are a manufacturer or educational leader in Southwest Florida and would like to participate in student tours, please visit the SRMA website and complete the registration form.

SRMA also hosts monthly social networking events. Mark your calendar for July 21, from 5:30 – 7:30 and join SRMA at Hopsized Brewing Company, in Bonita Springs. For more information, or to see a full calendar of events, please visit SRMA.net.

The purpose and objective of the Southwest Regional Manufacturers Association is to bring together manufacturers, promoting industry and individual growth, by providing networking opportunities, resources and the collective voice of manufacturing through advocacy.
