Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village and Nauti Mermaid hosts meet-and-greets featuring shelter pets

Last pet adoption event of month is Dec. 10

The Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village is partnering with the Cape Coral Animal Shelter to help find shelter animals a home for the holidays.

The resort’s dockside bar and grill, The Nauti Mermaid, has hosted a meet-and-greet with some of the shelter’s adoptable pets with the final event this Friday.

Although Dec. 10 is the last meet-and-greet of the year, the pet adoption component that carries with it a $25 gift certificate for the restaurant continues through the end of December.

“As a pet-friendly resort, we’re always looking for creative ways to cater to the animal-loving community of Cape Coral,” said Marwan Haddad, director of hotel sales. “In thinking of new ideas to create local connections, we approached the Cape Coral Animal Shelter with our idea to partner together for the holidays, and the rest is history! We were very excited they were on board, as we have always adored the local programs the shelter offers to our community and their furry family members.”

The resort said the first event on Nov. 26 was very successful.

It was attended by both resort guests and members of the local community.

“We had a steady flow of people at the event for the entire time from 5 to 7 p.m.,” Haddad said.

President of the shelter, JoAnn Elardo, said the resort has been there to help since the beginning.

“Before we had a shelter,” she said. “Since the beginning, The Westin was always there to help.”

Elardo said the earlier event went very well.

“We had a lot of people come that didn’t know about the shelter,” she said. “A lot of people gave extra. It’s a great event because we get our name out there and it helps the animals.”

The Westin Cape Coral offers pet-friendly amenities like the Westin signature Heavenly Dog Beds, floor mats and food and water bowls, upon request.

Attendees will be able to meet and interact with dogs available for adoption or dogs that will be available soon.

Those interested in adopting an animal from one of the events at The Nauti Mermaid will need to make an appointment online to spend some time with the animal at the shelter.

The shelter is not adopting out dogs at the event.

After making an appointment with the shelter, potential adopters will go outside with the animal and spend some time with it there to make sure they’re a good fit.

“We’re looking for a 10- to- 15-year commitment here,” Elardo said.

This is the first time the resort has partnered with the shelter for a program like this.

The resort offers experiences for its guests as well as locals with community partners and businesses.

“Our new partnership with the Cape Coral Animal Shelter has already been a great success,” Haddad said. “And we’re looking forward to the next one happening on Dec. 10.”

Partnerships like this are a win-win for the community.

It helps shelter animals find a home and helps support the shelter itself.

“If it’s not for businesses in the community helping the shelter which is a nonprofit and doesn’t get funding from anyone, we wouldn’t be able make it all happen,” Elardo said.

The Nauti Mermaid is at 5951 Silver King Blvd. in Cape Coal.
