REIS to discuss the sports factor in economic development

The impact of sporting events and facilities on business growth in Southwest Florida will be presented by Jeff Mielke, executive director of Lee County Sports Development, at the Dec 14 meeting of the Real Estate Investment Society.

The Sports Development department was created in 2003 to recruit major sporting events and promote sports tourism with the goal of growing the local economy. Mielke will report on the program’s services, recent accomplishments and the strategy for the future. After his presentation, Mielke will respond to questions from the attending real estate development and investment professionals.

The meeting, sponsored by Morris-Depew Associates, will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14, in the Osprey Room at Pelican Preserve’s Clubhouse, on Treeline Avenue at Colonial Boulevard, one mile east of I-75, exit 136, in Fort Myers. Stewart Title last week announced that Andres San Jorge has joined the organization as vice president and South Florida commercial agency manager. San Jorge will lead local efforts to grow and expand Stewart’s footprint in the agency commercial services market.

San Jorge is an attorney with more than 17 years of real estate experience in the South Florida market. Prior to joining Stewart, he served as vice president for WFG National Title Insurance Company where he helped launch, develop and operate the company’s Florida Commercial Division.
