The Horizon Foundation recently announced that Ryan Carter of Scotlynn USA and attorney Matthew Roepstorff of GrayRobinson, P.A. were elected to two-year terms as members at large for the board of the Horizon Foundation. Carter and Roepstorff will serve to grow the foundation’s stable of investors and build a stronger foundation for Lee County businesses and citizens.

The Horizon Foundation is a charitable 501(c)(3) organization established to provide a funding vehicle for businesses and individuals to invest in the long-term economic development and vitality of Lee County. The foundation is the sister organization to the Horizon Council, the only public-private partnership of Lee County Government and business leaders, whose mission is to improve Lee County’s business environment, retain and encourage expansion of existing businesses, and attract new and diversified employers.

Carter is executive vice president and co-founder of Scotlynn USA Division Inc., a logistics and transportation company that specializes in hauling refrigerated produce. Scotlynn is expanding its operations, building a new 60,000 sq. ft. headquarters in Fort Myers. Carter graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in economics.

MNMW to host FREE Community Shred Day event April 30

Markham Norton Mosteller Wright & Co., P.A. will partner with Secure Shredding Inc. to host its fifth annual FREE Community Shred Day event Friday, April 30, from 9 a.m. until noon. The Secure Shredding Inc. truck will be on site at the Fort Myers MNMW location, 8961 Conference Drive. There will be a two-box maximum per person for shredding.

This is a free event; however, MNMW encourages participants to consider a donation to the United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades and Okeechobee Counties when dropping off shred items. Donations for United Way can be in monetary form, canned or non-perishable goods, or new/gently used clothing. A representative from United Way will be on site to receive the donations and answer questions.

Items that can be shredded are bank statements, tax records, contracts, blank checks, etc. A good rule to determine if an item is “shreddable” is “if it tears, it can be destroyed.” Items not suitable for shredding include hard drives, cell phones, batteries, etc. All shredded material will be recycled to support an eco-friendly environment.

Markham Norton Mosteller Wright & Company, P.A. is a public accounting and consulting firm with offices in both Fort Myers and Naples. Along with traditional tax and accounting services, the firm offers a wide range of other services including general business consulting, construction business consulting, human resources consulting, medical practice consulting, not-for-profit services, elder services, family mediation services, forensic accounting, litigation support, marketing and public relations consulting, and technology consulting.
