The Hungarian Kitchen is looking to make a place for itself at Weaver’s Corner Shopping Center, serving traditional Hungarian food and getting rave reviews on social media.

Esther Feher has owned the Hungarian Kitchen for two years.

She came to America in 2000 to be with her father and brother and, after her father died, decided to stay in the United States.

She started a cleaning business in Naples and ran it for 18 years before deciding it was time for a change.

“With my husband, we couldn’t find the perfect house in Naples, but we found it in North Fort Myers,” Feher said. “We also bought this place, and we decided to give people here a taste of Hungarian cuisine.”

The first year was difficult as people had to get to know the restaurant and word of mouth got out about them.

But just as the momentum was being created, the pandemic ground things to a halt and things got very difficult.

“People were scared. But I had my regular customers, and they were coming back with new customers and we kept going,” Feher said. “It still feels like we’re starting over.”

When you look at the menu, you notice it’s targeted, serving only a handful of dishes and preparing them very well.

Goulash, Chicken Ptyriksah with Spatzle, Beef Paprikash with Potatoes and Schnitzel are the main offerings.

They also have great desserts like Gundel Crepes and Chimney Cake.

Feher said she requests reservations so she can have the employees she needs ready to serve diners; the pandemic has caused an inconsistent flow of customers.

The Hungarian Kitchen, at 4529 Bayshore Road at the end of the plaza, is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon until 7 p.m. They are closed Mondays.
