Quigley Eye Specialists last week announced that St. Lucy’s Eye Surgery Center and Community Eye Center have merged with Quigley Eye Specialists.

St. Lucy’s Eye Surgery Center and Community Eye Center are owned and operated by ophthalmologists Joseph W. Spadafora, D. O., and Eric R. Schaible. M.D.

Spadafora is the medical director of the Community Eye Center and has more than 30 years of experience in ophthalmology.  During the past three decades, he has performed research in ocular anti-inflammatory agents, glaucoma, medicines, ocular antibiotic agents and laser-guided cataract extraction at St. Lucy’s Eye Surgery Center.  He also has served as assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of South Florida, Tampa.

Schaible is the eye research director at Community Eye Center and specializes in complex cataract surgery, trauma, premium lens implants and treatment of astigmatism.  With 24 years of experience, Schaible has written numerous papers on neurosurgery and ophthalmology, including corneal surgery and optic neuropathy.  He also has conducted research on laser cataract surgery.

Community Eye Center joins 16 other locations under Quigley Eye Specialists ownership in Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties.

“As demand for excellent eye care continues to increase, merging with Community Eye will help us ensure patients have convenient access to the care they need. Dr. Spadafora and Dr. Schaible are fantastic doctors with stellar reputations in Charlotte County. Plus, Community Eye has three locations in the area which will help us get patients in same day and even on a walk-in basis,” said Dr. Thomas Quigley, founder of Quigley Eye Specialists.

Community Eye Center, which has been providing quality eye care for 40 years, will continue to provide care from its offices at 21275 Olean Blvd., in Port Charlotte; 1331 S. Sumter Blvd., in North Port; and 1988 S. Tamiami Trail in Venice. No operational changes are planned because of the merger.

In addition to the three Community Eye locations, patients may be seen at any Quigley Eye Specialists office as well: 2135 Tamiami Trail and 20600 Veterans Blvd. in Port Charlotte and 2529 Tamiami Trail in Punta Gorda.
