Children and adults alike can have a spooky good time celebrating Halloween this Saturday in the South Cape.

Parents and their young ones looking for some trick-or-treat fun can find select South Cape businesses passing out candy from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In the evening, popular Cape establishments will provide a frightening good time for adults with a drink and treat pub-crawl from 7-11 p.m.

Both events are put on by the South Cape Hospitality and Entertainment Association and this year with COVID-19 present, a more socially distanced presentation is in order as opposed to its usual trolley events.

“We can’t wait to see all the amazing costumes,” said SCHEA Event and Marketing Director Pamela Hazelton. “These events bring out some of the most creative costumes, especially handmade ones.”

This is the first time in a long time SCHEA has been able to organize a special evening for Cape residents.

“We’ve basically been closed down for eight months, so we’re excited to get back to doing events,” Hazelton said. “Right now we’re focusing on walking events with fewer people, so we can avoid people being crowded.”

There are currently two-dozen South Cape businesses participating in handing out candy. For the Spooktacular Drink & Treat Pub Crawl, attendees can take to 10 different locations for a hauntingly good drink and bite.

Participants include:

* BackStreets Sports Bar: Pumpkin Martini & Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup

* BurgerQue: Purple People Eater & Nerds

* Cork Soakers: Red Rum Punch & Skittles

* Dixie Roadhouse: Grim Reaper & Mars Chocolate Favorites

* John Michael’s Jewelry: Wine & popcorn

* Perk & Brew: Perk Shot & Snickers/Milky Ways

* Rack’em Spirits & Times: Rotten Rack’em & Sesame Seed Candy or Chick-O-Sticks

* Ralph’s Place: Blue Goblin & assorted fruit/chocolate candies

* Rusty’s Bar & Grill: Poisoned Apple & Caramel Creams

* Sidecar Treats: Wine Slushy & Sweet Tarts

Hazelton said the event is also a way to support recently slow or even shut down establishments.

“South Cape businesses are eager to get back to things, including events that bring people to their locations,” she said.

The pub crawl has a shotgun start of 7 p.m. and guests can choose where they want to check-in when they purchase their ticket to avoid lines and begin wherever they wish.

Tickets are $10 and include wristband and passport to all locations, treat bag, drink samples (2 oz) and candy, eligibility to win prizes and access to the official photo booth and photo booth contest.

To enter the photo booth contest, visit the official photo booth at South Cape Hub – 909 S.E. 47th Terrace. Snap your pic and upload publicly to Facebook, tagging #southcapespooky no later than noon, Oct. 26. Photos will be posted on SCHEA’s page and the public will vote. First place gets $300 cash; second place gets $150; third place gets $50.

To enter the grand prize drawing gift basket sponsored by Red Headed Witches, have your passport stamped at all participating locations.

There is also a $500 cash contest for the Cape business Trick-or-Treat in the morning — same photo booth rules apply.
