Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation Donates $23,000 to Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida
The Harry Chapin Food Bank recently received $23,000 from the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation to address food insecurity in Southwest Florida.
The donation is part of a program – called Fill Your Tank – that celebrates Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s 60th anniversary by providing $60 million over six years to fight hunger around the globe.
The Fill Your Tank program donations made locally are determined by local Enterprise operations.
Beyond donations, Enterprise Rent-A-Car is supporting the Fill Your Tank program with a hunger awareness and local engagement campaign. Hunger is often invisible and the campaign helps make hunger in our communities more visible.
In presenting the donation, Rob Wilson, Enterprise’s vice president and general manager in Southwest Florida, said, “Enterprise Rent-A-Car is woven into the fabric of the Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee county communities and food insecurity is an issue for our community. This donation to Harry Chapin will support those in our area who need a little help to reach their full potential.”
Richard LeBer, president and CEO of the Harry Chapin Food Bank, said, “We are very grateful for this donation from the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation. The generous support of donors like Enterprise makes it possible for us to rescue food to feed the 1 in 7 of our neighbors in Southwest Florida who face hunger.”
The Harry Chapin Food Bank, an affiliate of Feeding America, is a leading hunger-relief organization in Southwest Florida. The food bank solicits, collects and stores food for distribution to families and others in need through a network of more than 150 nonprofit agencies in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Glades and Hendry counties, providing food to about 28,000 people a week.
For every dollar donated, the food bank can provide $8 in food value. In fiscal year 2015-16, the Harry Chapin Food Bank distributed 20.6 million pounds of food and other grocery items, including 6.4 million pounds of fresh produce. The food, valued at $34 million, is the equivalent of 17 million meals for people in need.
The Harry Chapin Food Bank is recognized as a four-star organization by Charity Navigator, the national nonprofit watchdog organization.
The food bank is also a United Way partner agency.
