BackStreets to host summer-long karaoke contest with $1,000 cash prize
BackStreets Sports Bar will hold a summer-long karaoke contest, with a $1,000 cash prize to the last singer standing. The 13-week event will feature 12 Sunday night showdowns to determine who will compete in the Final Round.
“Cape Coral has a lot of great singers,” said BackStreets owner Shelly LaPaglia, “So we wanted to find a way to showcase them, while also giving them the chance to sing for great prizes.”
Every Sunday from June 5 to Aug. 21 singers will vie for the weekly prize: a $25 BackStreets gift card, and, a spot in the Finals. The contest takes place on the bar’s patio from 9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m, with the night’s winner determined by crowd applause, measured with a decibel meter.
The finals will be held Aug. 28 starting at 7 p.m. on the inside stage. DJ Mike Allen will present the finalists, with a panel of judges determining who takes home the top prize. First place gets $1,000 cash, the runner-up getting a $100 BackStreets gift card and the Third place performer receiving a $50 BackStreets gift card.
Rules, which can also be viewed on the bar’s website or Facebook event page, are as follows:
The contest is for solo singers (no groups).
Singers must register to sing in Sunday night weekly event at 9 p.m. Singing commences at 9:30 p.m.
A singer may only take first place during the semi-finals once.
All semi-final contestants must be able to attend the finals.
If a singer is unsure their song is available, they should email or Facebook message the bar by the Friday before they plan to compete.
Contestants must be age 21 or up – BackStreets is a 21+ establishment.
Since the semi-final winners are selected based on crowd applause, singers should be sure to practice singing in front of others.
“Many of our patio regulars love to watch karaoke, even if they don’t sing themselves. And they’ll let us know who they think is awesome,” LaPaglia said.
Backstreets is at 915 S.E. 47th Terrace in South Cape. For more information, call 239-945-7555.
