Massage therapist joins

Dr. Mel Youngs Wellness Spa

Dr. Mel Youngs, D.C., P.A., has announced one of the newest additions to her healthcare team, Melanie Aguila, a licensed massage therapist.

Aguila has been a massage therapist for over 12 years and is a graduate of Heritage Institute. In addition, she is a certified surgical technician with a degree from Southwest Florida College. According to Dr. Mel, she has the experience and skills to help patients with a variety of health problems.

Aguila is trained to relieve headaches, muscle tension, back and neck pain and more. She is among 13 highly skilled licensed massaged therapists at Dr Mel’s Chiropractic Office & Wellness Spa.

The Provisor Group teams with Friends

and Neighbors of the Cape to assist local family

The Provisor Group has partnered with Friends and Neighbors of the Cape to help raise money for the family of Corbin Jensen, a 7-year-old second grader who has been diagnosed with leukemia.

Friends and Neighbors of the Cape, a “grassroots organization which has made it their mission to help area families in need,” recently held a fundraiser for Corbin.

“We’re very happy to assist Friends and Neighbors of the Cape in their quest to help the Jensen family,” said Edwin Pickett, owner of The Provisor Group in a prepared statement. “This is exactly why we created our Community Program to come to the aid of local people going through their toughest times. We hope everyone will rally around Corbin and his journey to good health.”

Record number of passengers travel through

Southwest Florida International Airport during March

During March, 1,269,961 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase of 7.5 percent compared to March 2015. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 8 percent from the same period last year.

“Southwest Florida International Airport is pleased to report that March 2016 was the single-largest month for passenger traffic in our 33-year history and we experienced record-breaking growth for the first quarter of 2016,” said Robert M. Ball, A.A.E., executive director of the Lee County Port Authority. “I want to thank our airlines and airport business partners for working together during the busy winter travel season to accommodate and welcome millions of travelers to our region.” The traffic leader in March was Southwest with 299,543 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Delta (248,579), American (170,104), JetBlue (122,544) and Spirit (118,320).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 10,676 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), an increase of 3.1 percent compared to March 2015. In addition, more than 2.8 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in March 2016, an increase of 3.8 percent compared to March 2015.

Six Bends plans May activities

On Thursday, May 5, Six Bends will host a Cinco de Mayo celebration presented by Univision from 5-9 p.m. Guests can taste traditional dishes from five competing restaurants and vote their favorite recipe for a $1,000 “restaurant war” grand prize. The holiday fiesta will also feature an attempt to break the World Record for the longest taco line (currently set at 2,013 tacos). The tacos will then be donated to local First Responders. Live music will be provided by DJ LEXX.

On Saturday, May 7, the 4 Words Foundation and 21st Century C.A.R.E. will partner to host the 3rd Annual Racing for Cancer Causes Bed Race. Spot Therapy Associates North has relocated and is now operating as FOCUS, according to company officials. FOCUS – “Follow our course until successful” – will continue to serve the community of children and adults in areas of speech-language, physical and occupational therapy.

FPRA to visit Lee EOC May 3

The Florida Public Relations Association Southwest Florida Chapter will visit the Lee County Emergency Operations Center Tuesday, May 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

With hurricane season set to begin in June, the “PR On the Road” luncheon series will tour the facility to see what tools are being used by EOC staff when a hurricane is projected to hit Southwest Florida. Emergency Planning Manager Lee Mayfield will discuss the plans and procedures that are implemented and how his office handles disseminating information to the public during a crisis, such as a hurricane.

The EOC is the focal point for coordination of emergency response and recovery activities throughout Lee County. When activated for an emergency, the EOC is staffed with key personnel from first responder agencies, emergency relief organizations, County departments, municipalities, utility companies, media and other essential agencies. One of the EOC’s major goals is to help the public prepare for an emergency, well before it happens.

The cost for attending the presentation is $25 for members, $30 for non-members and $15 for students. Space is limited so please register early. Guests must RSVP online at fpraswfl.org.

Imagine by Carleen has established the WISDOM Integrative Therapies Fund through the Cape Coral Community Foundation to provide complementary treatments on a donation basis to alleviate the side effects of cancer, cancer treatments and other conditions that compromise the immune system. The fund is named after the acronym for Weakened Immune Systems from Disease or Medication.

Esthetic and wellness treatments are available for booking at the Cape Coral-based therapeutic day spa for clients and caregivers, regardless of their ability to pay. Sponsors and donations for the WIDSOM Fund are also now being accepted.

WISDOM services include oncology facials, massage, manual lymph drainage, hand and foot treatments, scalp treatments, camouflage makeup, aromatherapy, meditation and reiki.
