Pine Island Potters’ Guild’s End-of-Season Show Saturday

2 min read

It is the season for spring cleaning and the artists from the Pine Island Potters’ Guild are eager to dig into the corners of their studios for treasures to offer on Saturday, April 9, in the courtyard of Koucky Studios.

This end-of-season tradition was passed on to the guild by Chuck and Nancy Koucky, who have been honoring this age-old ritual ? usually assigned to closets ? since they opened their studio in 2001.

Many of the artists will be cleaning out their studios, making room for next season’s creations, or closing up for the summer as they head north. The show will feature, in part, forgotten works brought out from the back of working studios and into the courtyard sunlight at Koucky’s, where they will be newly discovered by visitors and shoppers.

This small, inviting venue provides a welcoming environment to chat with local artists, inquire about their craft and learn about opportunities in the area for classes and workshops. All works by participating artists and craftsman will be available for purchase.

This month’s show – the last for this season – will highlight the works of local potters, jewelers, works in glass, painters, photographers and handmade soaps and cosmetics.

Locally produced gourmet vinegars and mustard by Witches Brew Vinegar Company will be available. Radiant Life Yoga will be offering samples of Raw Foods – ask about their yoga classes and workshops. Enjoy delicious cookies, pies or fruit breads baked fresh for this show. Due to the popularity of Chuck Koucky’s Horsehair raku demonstration in March, he and some of this students will once again be showing this unique firing technique at 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m.

Interested in joining The Pine Island Potters’ Guild?

The guild is always open to new members and there is no membership fee. The spirit of the guild is to exchange ideas, techniques and experiences, and to participate in joint projects. Potters of all levels of experience are encouraged to join. Those who are interested in pottery, but who have not yet created any works in clay, are especially encouraged to come and talk with potters about this creative and varied medium.

Koucky Studios is located at 5971 Bay Point Road in Bokeelia.
