Brett and Driscoll to receive

2016 Sheppard Award

Jay Brett and Dawn-Marie Driscoll will be presented with the 2016 John W. Sheppard Award by the Southwest Florida Community Foundation board of trustees at the Foundation’s board meeting and 40th anniversary celebration on April 12.

Named after a founder of the Southwest Florida Community Foundation, the John W. Sheppard Award is given to outstanding trustees who have given selfless dedication to humanity and made significant contributions to the Community Foundation. Past recipients include John Sheppard, David Lucas, Peter Kleist, Arnold Sarlo, Frank Bireley, Jim Nathan, Sam Galloway, Jr., Tom Smoot, David G. Robinson, Bill Frey and Gene Solomon.

Brett and Driscoll were selected for their leadership of the organization during a period of significant growth and revisioning.

Brett has been in private practice with Sheppard, Brett, Stewart, Hersch, Kinsey & Hill, P.A. since 1973, where he is currently the senior attorney.

Driscoll joined the Southwest Florida Community Foundation board in 2005 and is also a former board chair. She is currently an executive fellow at the Center for Business Ethics.

The Southwest Florida Community Foundation is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2016. As part of the celebration, a special photo exhibit, by award-winning commercial and editorial photographer Brian Tietz, called Faces of Philanthropy will be on display at the Community Foundation’s office from Friday, April 15 through Labor Day.

Above Board Chamber Southwest

Florida Workforce Summit May 12

Jeanne Sweeney, founder and president of the Above Board Chamber of Florida, in cooperation with title sponsor Southwest Florida International Airport, will present the Southwest Florida Workforce Summit Thursday, May 12, at Harborside Event Center. The event will feature an open job fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for those seeking quality employment opportunities, and a panel discussion and luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for business owners, professionals, human resource managers, and investors.

Industries in Southwest Florida are in need of qualified workers, including healthcare professionals, skilled laborers, airport workers and more. A panel of local industry leaders will join their counterparts from Puerto Rico to discuss topics that include what may be an untapped resource of skilled workers, collaborative business opportunities, and economic growth in Southwest Florida.

State Rep. Heather Fitzenhagen will introduce the leadership panel who includes: Cape Coral Mayor Marni Sawicki; Brenda Thomas, executive director of the Building Industry Association; Peg Elmore from Career Source Southwest Florida; Kristy Rigot, system director, Human Resources for Lee Memorial Health System; Jazmin Nievez Alvarez, executive and staffing director from IKON Group; and Kevin Brady, international trade specialist for the Small Business Development at Florida Gulf Coast University.

Several dignitaries will also be taking part in the summit, including Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson, Puerto Rico Sen. Carmelo Rios, and Puerto Rico’s secretary of economic development and commerce, Alberto Baco Bague.

Chiropractic Awareness

Day at Lakes Park

The third annual Chiropractic Aware-ness Day, to celebrate families and children under chiropractic care and build awareness about it as a healthcare option, will be held Saturday, April 9, at Lakes Regional Park in Fort Myers, from 9 a.m. to noon in Shelter D-1 area.

The event offers a location close to Lakes Park splash pads and playground, a bounce house, face painters, photo booth, stilt walking balloon twister, music, grass games and information about chiropractic care.

This awareness event is free and open to all families in Lee County. The event is Hosted by primary sponsors Buckingham Farms, Auto Injury Consultants and Personal Labs as well as Alliance Financial, Standard Process and Fort Myers Montessori.

Other local businesses are also contributing raffle prizes and products.

Rasmussen College

to hold Community Career Fair

Rasmussen College, a regionally accredited private college and public benefit corporation, will host a free Community Career Fair on Wednesday, April 20, from 1-4 p.m., at its Fort Myers campus. The event, which is open to students, graduates and community members, is designed to help attendees advance their job-seeking skills and land their dream job by gaining access to career experts and employers that are hiring.

Job-seekers will have the opportunity to network with potential employers such as Lee Memorial Hospital, B&I Contractors, Child Care of SWFL, Race Trac, Lowes and Lee County Sherriff. They will also have access to resume reviews and mock interviews as well as hear from a panel of local employers on the hiring market and how to land your dream job.
