Apex Award nominees
The Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce Women in Business is now accepting nominations for the 2016 APEX Award. The APEX Award represents a tradition of celebrating and recognizing women in the community for professional excellence, community service, and actively assisting others in attaining professional goals and leadership skills.
To nominate a professional individual whom you find deserving of this recognition, complete the APEX nomination form. The form can be located on the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce website, www.fortmyers.org. The deadline for nominations is April 1, 2016.
The APEX nominees will be recognized during the July WIB meeting. The selected recipient(s) will then be honored during the 2016 APEX Awards event on Sept. 24, at Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa. This black-tie optional event will feature dinner, dancing, and a silent auction. The proceeds from the silent auction are contributed to scholarships for non-traditional female students.
Part of the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce, the Women in Business committee is dedicated to helping women achieve their fullest professional and personal potential. A variety of networking and educational programs are offered throughout the year, typically the first Wednesday of every month from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Starbucks Coffee Co in Cape Coral
DL Havlin will present a PowerPoint presentation at the Starbucks Coffee Co., at 4802 Chester St., Cape Coral, at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10. Havlin will explain Florida’s contribution to World War II and World War II’s contribution to Florida.
He’ll also discuss “Bully Route Home,” winner of the Florida Writers Association, Royal Palm Literary Award for the best literary manuscript. This novel, set in 1940s Florida, paints the past’s portrait of today’s problems.
The novel explores two of today’s most critical topics: race relations and bullying. He’ll be chatting with customers and his books will be available.

Walmart hiring approximately 200 associates for new LaBelle store
Walmart will hire approximately 200 associates to work at the new Walmart slated to open this spring in LaBelle. A temporary hiring center has opened at 165 S. Lee St.
Applications will be accepted Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and beginning Feb. 20, also will be accepted Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Interested applicants may also apply online at careers.walmart.com.
Walmart will offer a job to any eligible U.S. veteran honorably discharged from active duty since the Veterans Welcome Home Commitment launched Memorial Day 2013. According to store manager Elias Maldonado the store will be hiring both full- and part-time associates.
Walmart provides a benefits program to eligible full- and part-time associates. For example, it provides a variety of affordable health and well-being benefits including health-care coverage with no lifetime maximum.
Walmart also offers eligible associates matching 401(k) contributions of up to 6 percent of pay, discounts on general merchandise, an Associate Stock Purchase Program and company-paid life insurance. Addition-ally, eligible associates receive a quarterly incentive based on store performance.
The majority of new associates will begin work this spring to help prepare the store for its grand opening.
Rib City returns to JetBlue Park for Spring Training
Boston Red Sox fans will once again be able to enjoy award-winning barbecue at the team’s spring training home in Fort Myers, located at 11500 Fenway South Drive.
According to company President Craig Peden, for the fifth consecutive year, Rib City has signed on as an official concession vendor at JetBlue Park at Fenway South for the 2016 Spring Training season. Rib City will serve as an official concession vendor during Spring Training under Aramark, the Red Sox food and beverage partner and concessionaire.
The Rib City concession at the park will begin serving on Wednesday, March 2 when the Minnesota Twins come to JetBlue Park beginning at 1:05 p.m. The 2016 Spring Training schedule includes 17 games at JetBlue Park.
Founded in Fort Myers in 1989, Rib City is a family-owned national barbecue chain.
