Brooks joins Stevens
Construction Inc.
Mike Brooks has joined Stevens Construction as project manager, announced Mark Stevens, company president.
Brooks will have overall responsibility for the management and execution of health care and commercial projects during all phases of design and construction, ensuring projects maintain budget and schedule. He will also work closely with the design team to provide value engineering suggestions, constructability analysis, as well as negotiate and award vendor contracts, conduct owner/subcontractor meetings and monitor the construction team.
Brooks brings eight years of construction experience, providing pre-construction services on $300 million in completed commercial projects throughout Florida. A LEED Accredited Professional and licensed general contractor, Brooks earned his bachelor’s degree in building construction from the University of Florida.
With offices in Fort Myers, Tampa and Orlando, Stevens Construction specializes in providing construction management, general contracting and consulting services to clients and design professionals. Campo Felice community in
downtown Fort Myers on schedule
The $60 million renovation and construction of Campo Felice in downtown Fort Myers remains on schedule, with plans for its first residents to arrive in early 2017, announced Rebekah MacFarlane Barney, director of operations for The MacFarlane Group LLC, owner and developer of the project.
The independent living community at 2500 Edwards Drive is located on more than 4 acres overlooking the Fort Myers Yacht Basin in the historic River District.
Construction and renovation milestones reached to date include:
n The building is 70 percent demolished including 15 floors and the back ballroom.
n Swimming pools have been removed and filled.
n 7 floors of windows have been installed on the south side with Pacifica Blue hurricane-impact windows (as will all the windows upon completion).
n The north side of the building has been completely stripped, and the primer process is under way.
n Waterproofing in the parking garage has begun.
n Fencing along Edwards Drive has been installed to begin work on the porte-cochere.
n The 20th through 23rd floors are framed.
When completed, Campo Felice will feature 323 independent living apartment homes with one and two bedrooms, and offer numerous luxury amenities, gourmet dining, activities, entertainment, supportive services, and health and wellness programs.

Minto Communities presents second quarter donation to Builders Care
Minto Communities, a premier builder and developer in Southwest Florida and beyond, has been awarded the “Building Partner of the Year” award by Lee BIA Builders Care for its continued support of Builders Care. As a certified building partner, Minto Communities is donating $100 from each home sale through its Bonita Isles community to Builders Care, providing funding to assist the organization in helping local homeowners in need of renovations.
In addition, Minto Communities is donating its services and resources to complete a residential renovation project for a qualifying homeowner in Lee County in 2016. To date, Minto Communities has supported Builders Care with over $17,400 in financial donation resulting from home sales.
The funds provided by Minto Communities’ home sales in Lee County will provide wheelchair ramps, handicap accessibility, widened doorways, roof and air conditioning repairs and more.
Builders Care is the nonprofit charitable arm of the Lee Building Industry Association (BIA). Its objective is to provide emergency repairs and construction services to elderly, disabled and economically disadvantaged people who are unable to obtain home repairs through traditional means. To date, Lee BIA Builders Care has put nearly $3.7 Million in construction services back into the community at no cost to homeowners in need. Builders Care enlists the volunteer services of Lee BIA members and leverages grants and donated materials to provide construction and remodeling services to qualified homeowners throughout Lee County. GMA Architects & Planners welcomes two new hires
GMA Architects & Planners recently hired architect Charles Dickey as project architect and Christopher Moulton as an intern architect.
Dickey has been practicing architecture for over 30 years with firms in Washington, D.C.; Charlottesville; Virginia; and Tallahassee, serving in a variety of roles including design, production, project management and administration.
A graduate of the University of Florida with a masters of architecture from Virginia Tech, Dickey has experience in a broad spectrum of project types including mixed use, commercial, residential, ecclesial, historic preservation and renovation.
A University of Miami graduate, Moulton has joined GMA as an intern architect. He began working in the industry in 2011 after receiving his degree in architecture with a minor in urban studies. A Maryland native, Moulton spent time with TerraLogos Eco Architecture, PC, before relocating to Fort Myers. He has worked as a remote drafter for MGA Architecture of Honolulu, Hawaii, and PDS Architecture of Fort Myers before finding a place with the GMA family.
