Overtime Pizzeria offers ‘much more than pizza’
When Kristina and Michael Amato saw the opportunity to buy a restaurant where the former Dublin Ale House was in Cape Coral, they jumped at the opportunity.
Last month, they opened Overtime Pizzeria and Sports Pub at 1708 Cape Coral Parkway, West, on the corner of Chiquita Boulevard.
According to Kristina, Michael had been a seasonal resident in Cape Coral, with himself and his family having been in the restaurant business for years while on the Jersey Shore.
“They owned two pizzerias in Avalon and Stone Harbor, and his father owns a pizzeria in Philadelphia,” Kristina said. “I was a student and waitressed at his restaurant when we met.”
The couple decided to become year-round residents and looked around for a business and found Dublin Ale House on the market, which at first they weren’t excited about.
“We don’t know much about Irish food, but the location and price were great. And it has a lot of room to grow. The upstairs isn’t in use now, but we have the option to use it when it gets busy enough,” Kristina said.
The Amatos renovated the place and turned it into a sports pub that offers Italian cuisine as well as traditional sports bar fare.
So far, business has been strong, especially on the weekends, and word of mouth has been positive. However, Kristina doesn’t want to be known as strictly a sports bar, but as a gourmet sports bar.
“We’re so much more than pizza. We have everything from pub food, such as wings, nachos and quesadillas, to Italian food, which my husband takes care of, as well as Florida foods like grouper, mahi mahi and others,” Kristina said.
Overtime features entertainment during the week and daily specials. Monday brings prime rib for $13.95. Tuesday features BOGO half-off pasta. Wednesday has large one-topping pizza for $9.95, with 75 cent wings on Thursday and $9.95 fish n’ chips on Friday.
Overtime also has dozens of big and small-screen TVs as well as a game room for the kids, making it the place to be for all ages.
And when you eat here, expect everything to be fresh, Kristina said.
“Everything is made here. We hand bread everything, including the mozzarella sticks and chicken tenders. Nothing is frozen,” Kristina said. “The wings are oven roasted and all the sauces are made here.”
Overtime Pizzeria and Sports Pub is open every day from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. For more information, call 541-3367 or check out www.overtimecapecoral.com. Or on their Facebook page.
