Nonstop service between
RSW and Cancun begins
Nonstop service between Southwest Florida International Airport and Cancun International Airport in Mexico will begin today, Oct. 9. Sun Country will operate two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Fridays between Fort Myers and Cancun.
This is the first time RSW will have nonstop service to Mexico.

Attorneys Hersch and Hill host Florida Residency
and Estate Planning Workshop Nov. 2
Attorneys Craig R. Hersch and Michael B. Hill, partners with Sheppard, Brett, Stewart, Hersch, Kinsey & Hill, P.A., will host a Residency and Estate Planning Workshop Monday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m., at Temple Beth El, at 16225 Winkler Road, in Fort Myers.
Hersch and Hill will discuss considerations and advantages for declaring residency in Florida and related tax law matters.
Hersch and Hill encourage Florida residents to have their estate planning documents reviewed following recent law changes that could potentially impact estate plans. In addition to the workshop, Hersch and Hill will also offer attendees the opportunity to arrive a half-hour early with a copy of their current estate planning documents in order to receive a confidential, complimentary review and written analysis following the presentation.

Two added to Atilus staff
Atilus, a full-service web development and Internet marketing firm, has added two new positions, hiring a front-end developer as well as a marketing intern, both of whom are from Florida Gulf Coast University.
Sammi Merritt, Atilus’ new front-end developer, brings experience in design, HTML, CSS and javascript, and was formerly employed at both Chicos and Heavy Code.
Skye Gonzalez is also a student at FGCU and is working on her bachelor’s degree in communication with a public relations concentration and minors in marketing and advertising. She started with Atilus as a marketing intern and will be assisting with research, strategy and content development.

Three earn APR designation
Three members of the Southwest Florida Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association recently earned professional public relations accreditation, and received the designation of Accredited in Public Relations. Earning the prestigious recognition are Francesca Donlan, APR; Dayna Harpster, APR; and Tiffany Whitaker, APR.
Donlan, Harpster and Whitaker join more than 4,300 active public relations professionals worldwide who represent an elite group of skilled professionals committed to practicing with exemplary ethical standards, including 33 in Southwest Florida.
Donlan is the communications manager at the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau. She spent most of her career as a journalist before joining the VCB three years ago. Harpster is the editor of Expressions magazine with WGCU Public Media at Florida Gulf Coast University. She’s also a freelance writer and mental health advocate.
Whitaker is director of business development and client services for Pushing the Envelope Inc., where she specializes in multi-media marketing, public relations, communications and operations and coordinates the agency’s internship program.
To earn accreditation, candidates must pass an oral presentation and a written examination administered by the Universal Accreditation Board, which is an alliance of eight national and statewide professional associations dedicated to furthering the field of public relations and the development of public relations professionals. Florida Certified Tourism Information Center
In correlation with a new VISIT FLORIDA program, The Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce is officially a Florida Certified Tourism Information Center.
The VISIT FLORIDA Certified Tourism Information Centers Program brings VISIT FLORIDA recognition to Visitor Services facilities around the state, providing these facilities and their staff with benefits that enable successful promotion of travel to and throughout Florida.
To become an official Florida Certified Tourism Information Center, visitor centers must meet requirements specified by VISIT FLORIDA, such as: centers must be a VISIT FLORIDA Partner, centers must be open year-round at a minimum of five days per week, centers must be located in a convenient and accessible location for the ease of travelers, and centers must have access to parking and restroom facilities to accommodate visitors including persons with disabilities.
The Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce is at 1661 Estero Blvd., Ste 8, on Fort Myers Beach. It also has a mobile welcome center Roxie, a converted Airstream Travel Trailer in place at 420 Old San Carlos Blvd., near the Time Square area.

Haunted Hike continues at
Mike Greenwell’s; Safe Trick or Treat Oct. 30
For the 24th year, Mike Greenwell’s on Pine Island Road will hold its Haunted Hike.
The Hike continues Oct. 9, 10, 24, 25, 30 and 31. This event starts at dark each of these nights. The Haunted Hike is intense and intended to be scary.
The General Admission ticket is $10 and our Fast Pass VIP ticket is $15. There are no refunds or exchanges on these tickets. Special Event parking is $2.
Mike Greenwell’s 24th annual Safe Trick or Treat will be held on Oct. 30 this year from 5 to 8 p.m. This is a free event for kids 12 and under.
Make sure to wear costumes and bring goodie bags along! Greenwell’s will accept donations of pet food for local animal shelters. There is $2 Special Event parking.

$5,000 to Wounded Warrior Anglers of America
Miceli’s Restaurant recently donated $5,000 to the local Wounded Warrior Anglers of America Inc., a group of Pine Island residents who raise funds to help rehabilitate the mind, body and soul of service members who have been injured, wounded or disabled in the line of duty.
The 501 (3) (c) charitable organization primarily provides fishing therapy and comradery with other veterans in a friendly, healing environment and also helps support their caregivers and family with attentive, restorative healing services. Wounded Warrior Anglers’ chapters are located in Matlacha, Port Charlotte, Jackson-ville, and the Southeast coast of Florida.
