Joseph’s Fine Furniture

opens on Del Prado Boulevard

Joseph’s Fine Furniture, a family owned and operated furniture retail and repair business, has opened in Cape Coral at 1311 Del Prado Blvd., Unit C.

According to owner Angela Cannistraci, the store sells new and used furniture, artwork and decorative accessories. It also specializes in furniture repair, refinishing and restoration, as well as custom-built projects.

Yappy Hour Saturday at Cape Harbour

The Gulf Coast Humane Society is celebrating summer at its monthly Yappy Hour with a Hula-Hoop contest. All dogs and their handlers are invited to join in on the fun Saturday, July 25, from 6-8 p.m. at Cape Harbour, located at 5785 Cape Harbour Drive in Cape Coral.

GCHS will have adoptable dogs available to meet potential new families. T-shirts will be available for sale and attendees can meet and visit with GCHS adoptable dogs looking for their forever home.

Bring out your furry friend to show off their best summer outfits and enjoy the evening as vendors will be joining the event this month to promote their businesses. Fathoms Restaurant and Bar, with The French Press Cafe will provide beer, wine, and a DJ for entertainment during the event. Proceeds from beverage and t-shirt sales will benefit GCHS.

Gulf Coast Humane Society, located at 2010 Arcadia Street in Fort Myers, was established as the first non-profit animal welfare organization in southwest Florida in 1947. The 501(c)(3) mission is to rescue, provide safe refuge and compassionate care, and find forever homes for abandoned and neglected animals in the area. GCHS only takes in owner surrendered and transfers from other shelters and rescue groups with a high success rate of adoptions. June numbers increase

at Southwest Florida International Airport

In June, 481,512 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase of 0.6 percent compared to June 2014. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 4.4 percent from the same period last year.

The traffic leader in June was Delta with 118,259 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (111,362), JetBlue (55,793), US Airways (46,251) and American (35,990).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 4,749 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), an increase of 1.7 percent compared to June 2014. Page Field saw 7,649 movements, an 11.7 percent increase from June 2014. In addition, nearly 2.5 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in June 2015, an increase of 8.3 percent compared to June 2014.

Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 7.9 million passengers in 2014 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic. ‘Fudge for Troops’ promotion through July 31

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, located at Miromar Outlets in Estero, is running a “Fudge for Troops” promotion now through July 31 to benefit Project Soldier Bound.

For each pound of fudge a customer purchases in-store, the store will donate one pound of fudge to be added to care packages sent to our service men and women overseas.

This is the second annual “Fudge for Troops” promotion for the shop. Last year, the Estero store sent 91 pounds of fudge overseas and this year they have a goal of 100 pounds. Businesses are invited to participate as well – fudge can be purchased now and picked up during the holidays as gifts for employees, clients and customers.

The store features a variety of handmade chocolate confections: toffee, truffles, caramels, peanut butter, tiger butter, chocolate covered strawberries, ice cream and more.

Winn-Dixie, BI-LO, Harveys donate over $3 million

to Wounded Warrior Project Independence Program

Through a combination of customer and vendor donations and all profits earned at BI-LO, Harveys and Winn-Dixie grocery stores Saturday, July 4, Southeastern Grocers announced recently that it will donate $3,044,091.38 to support the Wounded Warrior Project Independence Program, which helps warriors live life fully, on their own terms.

The donation funds were raised through contributions made in BI-LO, Harveys, and Winn-Dixie stores during checkout, as well as on each organization’s dedicated website. Additionally, on July 4, every penny in profit earned at Southeastern Grocers’ nearly 790 stores was donated. One hundred percent of the funds raised will support WWP’s Independence Program, which provides personalized plans that target each warrior’s needs or interests, allowing them to live as independently as possible. These individualized plans are developed at no cost to the warrior.

Scott named marketing chair for

March of Dimes ‘Bikers for Babies’ event

Samantha Scott, APR, president of Pushing the Envelope Inc., has been named the 2015 marketing chair for the 15th Annual March of Dimes “Bikers for Babies” event and fundraiser. This year the festivities will take place Friday, Nov. 13, to Sunday, Nov. 15 at Six Bends Harley-Davidson.

The Southwest Florida March of Dimes “Bikers for Babies” motorcycle ride is the second largest and longest police escorted ride in the U.S. Individual riders and rider clubs compete to raise the most funds so that they can lead the ride the following year. However, members of the community do not have to ride in order to participate in the event and fundraising activities.

“Bikers for Babies” weekend will include a Friday night Bike Night, a concert, a car show on Saturday and the fundraising ride on Sunday. The ride will start at North Collier Regional Park in Naples and end with a celebration at Six Bends Harley-Davidson. The March of Dimes estimates that more than 35,000 people will participate in rides across the country this year.

Buff selected

FABA board member

Jonathan Buff, general manager of Base Operations at Page Field, has been selected to serve on the board of directors for the Florida Aviation Business Association. Buff’s experience in aviation business development will be a valuable resource to the board and organization.

Buff joined the Lee County Port Authority in January 2014 and is responsible for increasing business and expanding customer service and safety programs at Base Operations. Prior to LCPA, Buff held leadership roles for 15 years in business and general aviation with several fixed-base operators, including Hawthorne Global Aviation Services, Signature Flight Support, AMR Combs and Sheltair Aviation Services. He holds a Bachelor of Science in administration of justice from American University and a law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
